Something I Didn’t Expect to Do and a Flat Tire

Dakota and her little cousin Gideon hung out in the church nursery with Jimmy and I on Sunday night!

Gideon is on the left and Dakota is on the right!

Gideon may be seven weeks younger than Dak but he’s catching up to her in size! It’s cute seeing them eye each other up. I hope they become besties as they grow up 🥰

If you would have told me ten years ago that I’d be up at 5:00 am cutting out the anatomy pieces of an axolotl I would have laughed. I didn’t even know what an axolotl was. But here we are. Sadie girl loves these salamanders, so we’re doing a science unit on them. The kids wake up early (7:00 am or earlier!) so the 5:00 hour is my time to prep lessons, lol.

I’m enjoying learning right along with her! See that puzzle in the tin in the photo above? That has been fun, too. Sadie is a bit of a puzzle savant. Our neighbor had her do a 48 piece puzzle at her house and said Sader Tot did it no problem. So I got her a 60 piece and she did it in about ten minutes.

She finally met her match with the 100 piece and needed my help. I’m pretty useless with puzzles, though! it took us about an hour but we did it and felt so proud afterwards.

In other news, we got a flat tire this week. I brought the kids to Jimmy’s work to do school and when we were driving home we heard a POP. Thankfully we have run flat tires, so we made it home okay.

Jimmy was on the ball and took the tire off, brought it to a shop, and put a new one on the next day. I’m so thankful to have a husband who is super handy with things like this!

Other things from the week:

Chocolate covered Oreos

I had a last minute order for chocolate covered Oreos. I’ve also been working on a big order all week (peanut butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and more chocolate covered Oreos!) for pickup on Saturday.

Sadie was given a 3D writing pen for Christmas and had a hard time getting the hang of it. Six months later? She loves it! It’s crazy how kids develop and learn as time goes on.

She said her creation was a turtle!

We usually have Dakota nap and sleep in a Magic Merlin sleepsuit but I feel like she wants to lay on her stomach so I had her do a couple of naps without the sleepsuit and she slept almost on her side?! The naps were so-so. I think I’ll stick with the sleep suit for now 😂

Other notes:

  • Sadie and I read Frog and Toad books and she thinks they’re so funny! A classic!
  • I took a hot yoga class by myself this week (my sister-in-law aka yoga buddy is traveling) and it was lovely. I am one of those people who will go out to eat, to movies, to classes all alone and feel totally comfortable.
  • I’m currently reading Teaching from Rest and it’s really great. Very inspiring for any homeschoolers out there 😊

That’s all I’ve got for today. I have a wicked headache. I am hoping to book a chiropractic appointment ASAP! I think I have a crick in my neck from sleeping with Dakota in our bed when she eats in the night 😆

Do you like to do things alone or do you like to bring a friend/family member/significant other along?

  1. the 3d one seems super cool- I can’t wait to see Sadie’s next creation!
im so sorry you got a flat tire— Jimmy to the rescue (and an awesome feature on your car)

Dakota sleeping in her side is adorable, but I do know she loves her little Merlin suit!

I am also perfectly fine doing things on my own/alone.

    love, Madre

    1. It is a neat little pen! She makes some cool stuff!

I was so glad Jimmy was able to take care of everything. I try to take care of him with cooking/cleaning/laundry and he takes care of the car stuff. Such a relief for me!

We’re sticking with the Merlin until it doesn’t fit!! If it helps her sleep, I am all for it, haha.

Isn’t being alone the best sometimes?! So peaceful!

      Love you!
