Eggs, Math Games, and Ratatouille

So, I’m curious. What’s the going rate for a dozen eggs where you live? Right now they’re priced crazy high in Pittsburgh. I went to the grocery store and a dozen generic-brand large white eggs were $6.59.

High prices for eggs

What! I feel like I can remember going to the store just last year and finding them for $0.99 when there was a sale.

I saw this meme below and was like uhh, yes. My sister said you can just buy a baby chick for less than $3.00. If our Siberian husky/escape artist/therapy dog Niva didn’t have such a high prey drive, I think I’d be buying a few chickens haha. Niva’s best husky friend, Runah, has actually killed chickens so we know not to test our luck 😉

I’m happy to report that our “gameschooling” with math is refreshing our routine! I mentioned in a recent post that Sadie was burnt out on her math curriculum, so we’ve been playing Math Island for the last few days to give her a break but still practice addition and subtraction.

She was in the zone!

Not going to lie… she played me and my mom separately and beat us both! I am all about infusing fun and engagement into Sadie’s schooling. She’s very into Minecraft, so her handwriting practice right now has been in this workbook!

Malcolm went to the vet this week for his yearly checkup!

I’m happy to share that our little black panther is healthy and as rambunctious as day one!

Sadie and Mordecai get endless entertainment with Mordecai’s Tonka truck.

I’m always surprised he can push her all by himself!

Niva knows how to ~relax~ to the max! Speaking of Niva, we’re about to do an eight session training for her therapy work in February!

I don’t know why, but I feel very productive after I’ve been to the car wash.

Car wash

Speaking of our car, we got it back! We had it booked for an oil change and air filter swap out and the technician went on vacation so we spent nine days with a teeny tiny BMW coupe… it was interesting with two carseats and squeezing my pregnant belly in there! I am so thankful to have our SUV back 🫶

The kids love the car wash. Mordecai used to be afraid of it, but now he likes it and is in awe every time we’re in it!

Sadie was coloring Sonic the Hedgehog coloring pages the other day while I was working on Etsy orders and I found a picture on my phone of her artwork later on 😂

Shadow and Amy Rose

I made ratatouille last night! I was flipping through a cooking magazine and came across the recipe. Zucchini, eggplant, and tomatoes? I love them all! I decided to make it and it came out really well!

Below the veggies, there’s a mixture of cooking wine, tomato paste, basil, and roasted red peppers. On top is thyme, salt, pepper, and olive oil!

It’s not often that I look at cooking magazines or cookbooks… but now I’m inspired to do it more often. It was fun to make something a little fancy for once, lol!

Well, as I type up this post, it’s Friday. Fri-yay! What are you up to? I’ll be doing school with Sadie, hanging out with the kids, and then working on Etsy orders when I can squeeze them in!

What are you up to this weekend?

What’s the last “fancy” thing you cooked or baked?

  1. Whoa, 9 days for an oil change and filter swap!? Insane. I’d be curious why they’d book anything for when the technician is gone. At least they gave you a rental I suppose.

Little used to have that same carrier! But then my mom got him this soft sided one which was a mistake. He turns into a psycho when he goes in a carrier and a soft sided one makes it easier for him to flip around and become the Hulk.

    That ratatouille looks SO good!!!

    1. Exactly! Like couldn’t we get a different technician?! Buuuut we did get to drive a little sport car all around haha.

Cracking up at the mental picture of Little with the soft sided carrier and being Hulk 😂

Thank you for the compliment on the ratatouille! Now I want to watch the kids movie and see if I can get them to eat it 😉

      1. Aw man!!! I am so sorry! It definitely feels weird to go to the store and see less eggs on the shelves (kinda feels like COVID 🫠) so I can’t imagine going and not being able to get any 😮‍💨

  2. You make the absolute best granola ever!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!!Thank you,Lisa SmithPresidentSouthbound Enterprises, LLC
