A Day with Us + A Vlog

We started our first full week in January this week!

Pittsburgh started off the week with a few inches of snow! I was glad I didn’t have anywhere to go… but sometimes being “stuck” at home can make you feel cooped up when it’s cold like that, you know?

The kids were so excited to wake up to fresh powder. I was up before them to see Jimmy off to work and read my Bible (still working on Job!). Once the kids got up and had hot cocoa and breakfast, I (attempted) to clean up the house a bit before we headed out in the snow.

I love putting the kids in matching pajamas! I saw these had wolves on them, and they kids call them their Niva jammies 😂

We spent a while getting all our gear on, and then we were off! We walked around the neighborhood for a bit and then played in the yard with Niva. She just loves the cold, snowy weather. When it’s like this, she never wants to come inside!

We had some more hot cocoa when we got inside and then made the kids favorite snack lately… energy bites! They only use four ingredients and aren’t baked so there’s no cooling time (yay!). I feel pretty good about giving these to them as a snack on the daily. I’ll share the full recipe in another post!

We all had lunch and I had one of my favorite foods… pulled pork! Aaaand it resulted in a semi-high blood sugar reading (125 mg/dL) which left me feeling a little guilty. Gestational diabetes is such a balance between foods that I like and foods that won’t raise my blood sugar 🫠

I got some house work done while the kids played: I changed the sheets, vacuumed, cleaned the kitchen table, and folded laundry. Even though it’s faster to do things like that without the kids around, I just love our normal days where I’m folding clothes and they’re romping around on our bed so happily. It’s loud and sweet and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

In the afternoon, I laid Mordecai down for his nap and Sadie and I got to work on her schoolwork!

The Good and The Beautiful Math

We worked on reading, math, Bible, American Sign Language, and handwriting straight through Mordecai’s nap time and then boom… he was up again and ready to play!

Jimmy got home that evening and took the kids outside with him while he shoveled the driveway. They hung out outside while I worked on an Etsy order and then prepped dinner.

Once we ate dinner, I had to run out to the store (the roads were finally more clear!) for a few essentials. I asked Sadie if she wanted to go with me but time with dad won out so both kids stayed with him while I went to Aldi.

I came home to Sadie giving Jimmy a spa treatment (too cute!) and Mordecai playing with his toy trucks. By then it was time to clean up the house and put Mordecai to bed! Jimmy put him to bed while I read books to Sadie and then we snuggled a bit. And that was our day!

Below is a vlog of all the fun. My favorite parts are:

  • Sadie and Mordecai’s excitement over the snow
  • Making energy bites with the kids
  • Jimmy getting a spa treatment from Sadie 😂

It was definitely a full, busy, normal day for us and I loved it 💛

What does a normal day look like for you?
