Happy New Year! I hope 2025 is off to a good start for you!
We started off New Year’s Eve by doing school in the homeschool room. Jimmy had a half day at work, so Sadie hung out after and waited for him to finish up while I brought Mordecai home for lunchtime.

Sadie is still loving her winter Sign Language workbook. I’m pretty sure she reads better in fingerspelling than English?!
Once Jimmy and Sadie got home, it was time for Mordecai’s nap and I headed off to a prenatal appointment. It was one of those times I wish we could have all gone together or Jimmy could have came with me but the logistics just weren’t panning out. It’s definitely different the third time around with appointments and childcare and balancing naps and schedules!
The appointment went well. Baby girl is doing well (so thankful to God for her health!!), I’m working on managing my blood sugar, and we’re just trucking along. I’ve been reading Real Food for Gestational Diabetes for about a week now and it’s helpful! I know it’s not the authors fault… but I just hate the whole gestational diabetes diet suggestions (or any diet for that matter!). I don’t like to feel restricted in any way around food, you know? But I know what I eat right now isn’t just about me, it’s also about the baby. So, I’m learning and doing my best!
After I got home, Sadie and I started getting ready for a girls’ night! I booked us for pedicures at a local salon using gift cards Jimmy had given us girls for Christmas. I kept it a surprise until a few hours before we left and she was over the moon with excitement!
We decided to take a shower and get ready together beforehand and I let her use my “special” conditioner and curling jelly. Then we did my skincare routine (she thought this was so cool 😂) using this moisturizer, toner, and serum. We swiped on some glittery eyeshadow and got all dressed and ready. She was thrilled! I was too 😊
We hugged the boys goodbye and set out for the salon! When we arrived, Sadie was so excited to be able to put her feet in the soaking tub and sit in the massage chair with a mug of hot cocoa.
We decided that we would get matching polish colors for our pedicures, so I let Sader Tot pick! She chose a glittery silver color that is perfect for the new year. I let her get her pedicure first and then it was my turn for some relaxation. Loved every second of it!
As Sadie gets older, we get closer and closer every day. I love, love, love doing special things like this with her! I’m looking forward to doing the same with Mordecai (I guess I do it on a smaller scale now when I take him out just us two to the car wash haha) and the new baby as they grow, too! Each of our children are so unique and I want to honor things that they enjoy and do them together as we discover their interests!
We ran to Walmart in search of one thing after we finished our pedicures: sparklers!! Sadie and Jimmy had big plans to stay up until midnight gaming and I wanted to send off 2024 with sparklers before I went to bed (at a reasonable 9:30 ish 😆).
We lit our sparklers and said Happy New Year and then went back inside to the warmth! I tucked into bed with this novel and Jimmy and Sadie got going on playing Minecraft together.
Aaaand they did it! They stayed up until midnight. They’re crazy. Also, Sadie is such a gamer girl. It’s adorable that she and Jimmy have such a strong bond with gaming. Love it so much. When I woke up on January 1st, 2025, they were both sprawled out on the couches with snacks all over the place. Looked like they had a great night!
I quietly made my favorite coffee lately and then snuck back into our bedroom to do my Bible study on Job. I have been wanting to do an in-depth study on Job for a while. If you’ve ever wondered why bad things happen to good people, Job is the book to read.
There’s so much wisdom to be found in Job. It’s a lot to take in… the profound suffering. But look at all the suffering we see around us each day. It’s so hard to witness and go through and yet God has purpose in it all, is still in control, and will set everything right when Jesus returns.
Once everyone was up for the day, Jimmy got to work on putting together the baby’s dresser! The kids loved playing in the box.
I got Sadie’s room semi-tidied and cleaned up and we made space for the dresser and changing table and I love it. It’s starting to feel a little more real (though also I am still shocked we will, Lord Willing, have a baby at the end of this pregnancy?!) with each thing we do to prepare for her. The other day, I was thinking whoa… I need to get diapers at some point soon! And get the carseat in the car! And we need to buy a crib! We still have some time, though 😬
The girls’ room is coming along! I can’t wait to share pictures when it’s all put together! A part of me feels so fearful to set up a space and prepare things because what if something happens, but I know I can’t think or live that way. God is in control and will bring us to and through whatever comes our way ❤️
Whew, okay, that’s a lot of thoughts today! We spent the rest of the day doing things around the house like taking down Christmas lights (Jimmy) and laundry (me). We had some snow flurries, which excited the kids to no end! I heard we may be getting a couple of inches next week… exciting!
In the evening, we headed out to a mall (we’re still couch hunting/undecided on a Lovesac) but everything was closed! Ya win some, ya lose some! Will today be a normal day? I’m excited to find out!

I love that you girls went to the salon together- such a special time ~ Sadie will always remember that (maybe a new tradition?) It cracks me up she and Jimmy stayed up gaming till midnight – go Sadie (and dad!) while you and Deck slept as normal.
Baby girl’s dresser looks adorable, and fits nicely in that space! 💕 I’m glad your appt went well, and she’s healthy and growing. I’m sorry for your food tracking – NOT MUCH LONGER!! Easy for me to say that – but you’re doing an amazing job tracking and testing. 🙏🏼
dad and I were sleeping by a little after 10, so we technically didn’t ring in the new year 🥴🥴
My plans thus far are to definitely take better care of myself health wise- better foods, and more sleep (the latter is a huge struggle for me). Thanks for a great post!
love you, Madre
Ugh, it was so special! I cannot wait to do it again. We plan on doing manicures next with our gift cards! Love the girl time… and that Jimmy and Sadie game together!
Thank you for the dresser! It’s perfect!! You’re right about the blood sugar stuff… not much longer!
I guess Deck and I didn’t technically ring in the New Year either haha!!
GET SOME SLEEP!!
I love you!
