I finished my last post saying how Monday would be a normal day for us after me being sick and the weird time between Christmas and the New Year and in typical fashion… it wasn’t quite normal 🤣
On Sunday night, it was really windy out in Pittsburgh and our power went out. One by one, we saw and heard several transformers blow around our neighborhood.
Jimmy and I looked at each other nervously and hoped for the best but also had a feeling we were in for a long haul. Sadie saw the transformers blow and was freaked out by the loss of power so we let her sleep with us that night.
After a restless and chilly night of sleep… we woke up to no power. I was still feeling off and sick and our refrigerator was officially warm. We checked the power company’s website and our town’s power had no timeline for when it would be restored.
We’re blessed that Jimmy’s work has a fridge, so he brought some of our dairy and meat there in case this was going to be a long-term problem. I spent the early morning battling some nausea, trying to see by candlelight, and reassuring Sadie that everything was ok!
We decided we’d stay warm (it was in the 40s) by going to Jimmy’s work and doing school. Once Mordecai was up for the day, I loaded the rest of our fridge into the car and we headed off! The bright spot of the morning was getting Starbucks since we couldn’t cook 😬
Once we got breakfast, warmed up, and started school, my neighbor called to say the power was back on. Woo hoo!!! After 15+ hours, I was nervous it would be days! I’m so thankful it was less than 24 hours. Definitely a weird start to the day and week, though!
It felt great to get back into a groove with school! We took a little break around Christmas and it seems like it was a great reset for Sadie’s brain and she came back stronger than before. Once we were done, I lugged everything from the fridge back into the car and brought the kids home. I spent the rest of the day trying to tidy up the house and catch up on dishes and cleaning. And feeling so thankful for warmth and light!
In the afternoon, we played with stomp rockets. Toys like those are a great way to get outside, especially on a cool winter day and man are those things are so much fun!
After dinner, I ran to the car wash and grocery store with Mordecai. He was so excited to shop with mom and go to the car wash!
By the time we finished up our errands, he was fussy. Just… not himself at all. When we got home, Jimmy noted that he felt warm and sure enough, his temperature was 102.4. Poor baby boy! We gave him some ibuprofen and got him to bed. I rocked him for a while and I was literally hot after I put him in his crib.
He woke up doing much better the next day, so I don’t know what to think. I kind of feel like he’s coming down with an ear infection? Time will tell 🤣
So the start to the week wasn’t normal… but it ended up being a good, weird day anyways! I’ll be back soon with a post on how we spent New Year’s Eve and the New Year.

you have definitely been going through some crazy sicknesses in your household over this holiday season! It’s been one thing after another- then the power outage was just the cherry on top I guess 🫤
I’m praying for a great healthy start to the new year for our whole family!
Dad and I spent New Year’s Eve walking around our OBX ‘hood, sitting on the beach for a bit (and saw crazy teens do a polar plunge of some sort), went to Lowe’s for some supplies, Publix for dinner food, then we just stayed in for the evening and watched a Hallmark (surprise surprise), and a portion of the Nashville New Year’s Eve show (got to see Eric Church, Stapleton, Miranda (just to name a few of my favorites)) then we finally called it a night at 10- such party poopers, I know! Hope yall had fun!
love you, Madre
I thought the power outage would break me after everything lately, haha. It made me appreciate our power and light and heat, that’s for sure! Thank you for all the prayers!
Love that you’re in OBX for starting 2025! Also sorta jealous haha!! Enjoy and we can’t wait to see yinz again! Love you!
The Stomp Rockets look like so much fun!
Love ❤️ You!
