11 Thoughts

It has been a while since I last did a post filled with random thoughts, so here we are! I have a lot on my brain. From the upcoming holiday season to Jimmy scaring me to unique lip balm flavors and everything in-between. So, let’s talk!

1. The Christmas season is (basically) here. I’m so excited! What will Mordecai think of our Christmas tree? This will be his third Christmas, but it will feel like his first all over again because he’s only two-years-old. Even having a six-year-old is downright magical this time of year. I finally made a “Christmas Fun List” for our family and it includes things like shopping for gifts for a child in foster care, driving around our town to look at Christmas lights, and decorating gingerbread houses. Can’t wait! Before we officially entered the Christmas season, we had a little family Thanksgiving a week before the actual holiday and I made a ham, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, crescent rolls, and apple and pumpkin pie! We set the table with a pretty tablecloth and festive plates. It was a great little evening!

2. Not recognizing our car. We got a new car in October and it’s a different color and model than our old one and I still don’t automatically recognize it when I park somewhere. There’s nothing like that panic feeling of being in a parking lot and not remembering where you parked or what your car looks like 😆

3. Please refill. I mentioned above that I made pies for our family Thanksgiving dinner. There was no way we would eat through an apple and pumpkin pie before they went bad, so we saved a few leftover slices and Jimmy brought the rest to work. He came home that very day with an empty pie pan and a note from one of his employees that had me laughing!

4. Being Iron Woman. I mentioned in my last post that I had a hematologist appointment for my anemia and braved the snow to get to it. I have a busy December filled with iron infusions coming up. Heeeelp! It’s the busiest month of the year but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

5. Would you use it? Last year, I bought a pack of ChapStick that was called S’mores and it came with three lip balms that were flavored (scented?) as marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker. I keep the graham cracker one in my nightstand, gave the chocolate one to Sadie (which she immediately bit???!), and keep the marshmallow one in my car. Would you use those flavors of ChapStick or are they a hard no? Jimmy is freaked out by them, lol.

6. Jimmy likes to scare me. If I’m not wearing my hearing aids, Jimmy often comes into a room and I just don’t hear him and boy do I jump about 10 feet when he gets close to me without me realizing it.

7. A meaningful quilt. Jimmy’s step mom, Kim, is amazing at sewing and crochet. A woman she knows lost her sister and Kim sewed a quilt for her out of her sister’s clothes. How amazing is that?!

8. My feet are so big and it’s annoying. I usually get men’s size nine shoes and accidentally got women’s size nine without realizing it and my toes were numb! Only then did I realize my mistake, lol.

9. Finishing a book with Sadie. Sadie is trucking right along through her reading curriculum and I’m so proud of her! In most lessons, she has to read a short story from a book with a bunch of stories that goes with the curriculum and she finished the second of three books this week. I cherish our time together when we do school 💛

10. Random things I’m loving. Spicy ketchup, conversations with Mordecai, day serum, checking the weather to see if we’ll get snow, hair smoothing treatment, crawling into bed at the end of the day, comfy maternity dress, having a candle lit in our bathroom, and doing Christmas shopping on Etsy and locally as much as possible.

11. Family time. On Saturday night, we went out and about as a family and it was fun! I was on a mission to clear up some space on our book shelves, so I sold some to Half Price Books and then we browsed around a few stores. We needed that together time! Jimmy and I both get so busy with our work that we’re often trading off one of us caring for the kids versus all just spending time together, if that makes sense?

Those are the things on my mind lately! I’m sure I could keep rambling, but we’ll end it here for today 😉

Would you use marshmallow ChapStick?

  1. I have to admit I am not a fan of the scented chapsticks. I’m actually quite devout to one type. I’ll use others IF I MUST, but I only buy one. More for you. Hahaah.

The quilt is beautiful, and such a good idea. I’m going to tuck that idea in my back pocket.

I love startling people, it makes me laugh so hard, but one time I startled someone I barely knew and he was FURIOUS. Now I proceed with caution. Also, with this opens the door for me to be startled. It’s a two way street and I usually do it with my coworkers.

    1. Ooo, what brand/type is it?! And you are a true minimalist. I am in awe!

Isn’t the quilt idea so neat?! Such a beautiful way to keep memories!

No way?! Someone you barely knew got mad about being scared?! That’s wild, haha. I feel like most people are a good sport about it, or they should be!

      1. I just use the Burts Bees basic lip balm. It doesn’t advertise on the outside that it’s peppermint, but it has peppermint oil in the mix and it’s SO cooling on my lips. Nothing special, but I find it just lasts the best and doesn’t wear off or sit on the surface if that makes sense.

      2. I would have guessed Burt’s Bees. That’s the good stuff! I remember when it first hit shelves and that peppermint-y flavor felt so cool and new. It’s a classic!

  2. I would prob be ok with the marshmallow vs the other two flavors. I don’t use flavored chap stick too often though.

The quilt is a nice gesture, but I have to be honest, it’s not something I would want… but that’s just me. A quilt made of my sisters old clothes – she would prob feel the same way – but everyone is different!

All the pics are adorable, as always – and I’m glad your pre-Thanksgiving meal was a success!

    1. The graham cracker flavor is probably my favorite! The marshmallow is a close second, but the chocolate was a no for me haha.

The quilt is really pretty! I love the way it keeps memories!

Can’t wait for “real” Thanksgiving with you and dad!
