A Night at the Fair, Vet Visit Crew, and Meeting A Grad Girl

We hadn’t been to the fair since 2022! It was definitely time to go again because both kids had such a fun time.

We parked and rode a trolley to the fairgrounds and the trolley was half the fun. There’s a trolley museum nearby that I think I need to take the kids to for a field trip!

We met Jimmy’s sister at the entrance and then just wandered around. We saw animals, enjoyed ice cream, Sadie rode rides, she and Jimmy went down a giant slide together, and we finished up at my favorite spot: the petting zoo!

The petting zoo was just the best! The goats were especially friendly. So friendly that when I leaned down to pet them, my shorts and shoe laces were being chewed on, lol. I don’t know what it was, but allllll the goats wanted to hang out and chew on me. I kinda loved it 😊

Mordecai did not want to ride any rides (he cried when we tried to put him on one with Sadie!) but he absolutely loved seeing all the animals. He kept making all the sounds he heard, which was so cute. Think of a sheep bleating and then Mordecai instantly saying “baa!” right back. I was smiling from ear-to-ear!

The morning after the fair, Niva had a vet appointment for her rabies vaccine booster. Since the appointment was in the morning, the kids and I brought her together and I’m sure the vet’s office thought we were a circus!

One of the things I love about being home with the kids is being able to take them along to do everyday things with me: grocery shopping, vet appointments, going to the car wash, returning library books, etc.! I feel like it’s good for them to learn how to act in different situations and to see how the world works.

Speaking of the library, we’ve been visiting a lot lately as we gear up for the school year! I’ve been gathering books to do a fun unit study on Latin America with Sadie. She’s really interested in this tv show called Elena of Avalor, so I figured I’d connect that with studying Latin music, food, geography, culture, and more.

To prepare, I checked out a few children’s atlases and a book on how chocolate is made (the characters on the show eat churros with chocolate!). I’ve been gathering recipes for us to try, looking at ideas for crafts, and searching for videos to learn Spanish words. It has been fun for me to gather all of these resources and info and I’m really excited to learn with her!

Of course, we also visit the library for story time and to play! Honestly, libraries are my happy place. I love the smell, I love wandering around, librarians are the coolest, and there are just so many books and so much info. I’m smiling just thinking about it 😂

I do wonder if the library kind of hates me because this is a snapshot of my account… 35 book requests and 14 items checked out 🙈

Guess what we did this weekend? We met up with my blog friend from Adventures of A Grad Girl! We had such a great time catching up at a coffee shop in Squirrel Hill and then heading to a local playground for the kids to run around.

She was so sweet and remembered how badly Sadie has wanted a fanny pack and bought one for her(!!!). Sadie pretty much melted into a puddle of happiness and hasn’t taken it off since! It was so nice hanging out with someone who is humble (despite having her doctorate at a young age), passionate about what she does, and has a love of children.

The kids were loved on with activities to enjoy in the coffee shop and lots of play time at the playground. I can’t wait to meet up again in the future 🥰

And that’s a wrap on this post! Jimmy just got home from painting the homeschool room we’re working on putting together at his work, so I’ll probably be blogging about that in the coming weeks 🙂

What did you do this weekend?

  2. What a fun post!! I LOVE blogger meetups, and I am so happy they still happen. The FANNY PACK!! What a lucky girl, and she still had to wait a bit so the lesson was taught!

  3. the fair reminds me of one we use to go to when I was a child (only that one was much fancier). We always enjoyed them as a family, especially the animals and yummy cotton candy 😗

I’m so glad you were able to meet your blog friend- and how amazing she remembered Sadie’s want for a fanny pack- what a great friend and example to Sadie about kindness.
I love that you and the kids go to the local libraries a lot- it’s so good for them (and you!)

    love you,

    madre
