There’s not much better than a summer Saturday! It was a hot one here in Pittsburgh, (I think the high was 93 degrees?!) but we made the best of it.
In the morning, our family went on a story hike with our local library. We met at a local trail and hiked with a group of friends from the library, stopped for story time, and then hiked back for snacks! The kids loved it and man did it feel good to be out in the woods.
After the hike, we stopped by a craft fair in our neighborhood. I love attending things like this and supporting local businesses! We stopped by a vendor selling clothes and I purchased a romper for Mordecai and Sadie picked out a sunflower-themed outfit.
She was very excited! She has always been into fashion. I wonder what her teen years will be like?! Her outfit choice reminded me of when she was a toddler and I bought her a Thanksgiving bell bottom set 😂
After lunch, Jimmy put Mordecai down for his nap and worked on house projects while Sadie and I went to the local pool. It was pretty much the only bearable way to be outside at that point.
She met a new friend at her swim lessons last week, so we planned to meet at the pool on Saturday afternoon. Sadie had a blast playing! I even had a few minutes to myself to read this book!
After a few hours at the pool, we headed home. Once Mordecai woke up from his nap, we went to the craft store to grab some buttons for a button canvas! Our cousin is re-doing her bedroom colors and requested a new one to go above her bed. I had made her one when she was a baby or toddler, so it was special to be able to do another one 🥰
We also grabbed lamb at the store while we were out and Jimmy grilled it up for dinner. It was delicious!
By the time I finished the button art, we put Mordecai to bed and just plopped on the couch to read for a bit. It was such a great summer Saturday!
Other fun things from the week included making homemade ice cream with the kids. Sadie wanted to “invent” her own flavor and she came up with a hot cocoa flavor by making vanilla ice cream (using this kit) and adding chocolate chips and marshmallows.
I mentioned in my last post that I’ve been working with an advent calendar company to add my granola to an advent calendar this holiday season. They wanted to try four flavors: peanut butter, coconut almond, gingerbread, and cranberry orange. I sent the samples and wondered all week which flavor they would choose. They ended up picking cranberry orange!
So my next steps are to order packaging and ingredients and then I’ll be making 500 units of granola in the fall. Exciting!
Well, I think that’s all I have to share for now. We are headed into a busy week that includes swim lessons for Sadie and possibly a visit to Pittsburgh’s amusement park, Kennywood… if the heat lets up! It was 94 degrees today.

The Hike looks like it was a good time and hopefully cool in the woods!
Sadie’s outfit Sunday was the bomb!
Love You!
Dad
🙂
It was so much cooler in the woods!! Isn’t Sadie just a little fashionista?! I love it.
Love you!
you have certainly had a lot of fun activities going on for your family! Summer is such a special time, things tend to ‘slow down’ a little, and the days are warmer (well excruciatingly hot in Pgh) and longer – so there’s more time to fit in special family time.
I guess now, for me, a perfect summer Saturday would either be a picnic with our whole family, or being at the beach house relaxing to the sound of the ocean waves – and eating tons of steamed shrimp 😂
love you,
madre
Yes, so much summer fun! I am trying to wring this summer out with all sorts of activities (and downtime, too!).
I hope you get some beach time and steamed shrimp this week! Love you!
