Berry First Birthday and a Heat Wave

My niece’s birthday party was so sweet. My brother and his wife have three daughters, and Olive is their last baby. It was extra special celebrating her first birthday ❤️

I’ve said it before, but my brother and his wife always throw such fun birthday parties for their kids! There was so much to do for all the kids: a bounce house, trampoline, slip-n-slide, and more. I think I saw Sadie for a total of five minutes the whole time we were there because she was busy playing with her cousins 💜

Olive enjoyed her smash cake! It was a sweet evening 🍓

We’re in the middle of another heat wave here in the ‘Burgh. We’ve had highs in the 90s and lots of humidity. I’ve found that getting out in the morning and evening is great, but mid-day the kids get red cheeks and I start sweating just from walking outside 🤣

Sadie started two weeks of swim lessons in the morning, so we’ve been at our local pool each morning and then we sometimes stop at the park to play if it isn’t too hot yet.

Mid-day has been looking something like this: the kids playing with Sadie’s stuffed animals, us reading books, snuggling Niva, or building with Legos.

One evening I took the kids to family swim at the local pool. I definitely would bring Jimmy with us next time (he had a work obligation) because both kids wanted to be in different places! Sadie was all about being in the pool and Mordecai liked the splash pad. He also fell and hit his head on the concrete and got a nice bruise lol.

Mom with kids at pool

We had my mom and niece over one day this week and we ordered Korean food for dinner. Kimchi stew, kimbap, spicy ramen, and potato pancakes were devoured. What a treat!

The girls didn’t have any Korean food but they had a full day of play. They both cried when they had to leave each other!

Niva and I had a therapy visit at our local library and arrived just on time. The librarian was like “there are some excited people waiting to see you guys!” and we had such a fun group waiting for us. One girl wanted to read a book to Niva, everyone watched her do a puzzle multiple times, gave her treats, and lots of hugs 🤗

We are headed back into our regularly scheduled visits at the school for Deaf children this month, since they head back to school in late July. So excited to see everyone again!

Last but not least, we did the library’s story time in the park one morning. Mordecai loved all the songs with hand moves that go with them. Sadie enjoyed the books!

What have you been up to lately?

  1. I agree- it was a fun birthday party~ I absolutely love when all of our grandchildren are together- it’s the sweetest 🩷🩷🩷

The heat and humidity has been atrocious ~ keeping the kids busy and content doing indoor activities is the best idea- it’s best for them and you!

It was awesome seeing Niva at the library this past week- the kids and parents all loved it!!
    so proud of you!
    love,

    1. It’s truly so sweet seeing them all together and I can’t wait to watch them grow up and hopefully stay just as close (if not closer!) than they are now!

The heat and humidity are still so bad! I can’t believe how long it has been this hot/humid!

Thanks for coming with us to the therapy visit! Love you so much!

    1. Right!! He cried pretty loudly for a few minutes and then he wanted to go back to playing haha. Toddlers.. they’re wild! If that was me, I’d be in bed for a few days haha.

  2. The birthday party sounds amazing! Glad you all had a fun time.

Hope Mordecai’s bruise gets better soon! My mum always uses arnica cream on bruises, she was never without a tube of it when me and all my siblings were little. It’s great stuff!

I’ve mentioned it before but the therapy work you do with Niva is such a wonderful thing to do. I’d be interested in training my new pup to do that, too. Blog post to introduce her coming soon 😊

    1. It was a great time!

I should look into arnica cream! I feel like it’s not common here in the U.S.!

Thank you for your kind words about Niva and I doing therapy work. I hope you can train Polly to do that, too! SHE IS SO CUTE!

      1. Thank you! She is a sweetie 🥰 She starts puppy school on Wednesday so I’m looking forward to taking her to the classes and practicing obedience. Fingers crossed she grows out of the daily 5 am wake-ups soon… If you have any tips for helping puppies sleep longer, I’m all ears!
