August Family Night: Kennywood

Our August family night was a good one: we went to Kennywood! Kennywood is an amusement park in Pittsburgh and man do I have so many memories going there as a kid. It was great to make some new ones with my own kids!

Since the summer season is winding down, Kennywood opens at 3:00 PM. It was kind of perfect for us because Jimmy left work a little early and we were there from around 3:30 – 8:00 PM. It was just the right distance away from our home and right amount of time in an amusement park with two young ones.

We decided to keep our outing a surprise (mostly because Sadie would have asked 100x if we were “going to Kennywood yet” 😂) and didn’t tell Sadie until we were on our way!

In classic Pittsburgh fashion, the radar was clear but it rained while we drove there and once while we were there. Thankfully both rain showers were quick. The park wasn’t busy at all and Sadie was able to ride every ride twice in a row (once with dad and once with mom!) with no long waits.

Mordecai liked watching Sadie ride the rides but was not a fan of the loud noises. We did dinner in the park and then Sadie and Jimmy rode the Pittsburgh Plunge together twice and got soaked. The park was so empty that they were the only ones on the ride the second time they went on. Crazy!

Jimmy rode a rollercoaster by himself for fun while the kids and I watched and waved at him and then we grabbed coffee and cotton candy before heading home. It was such a nice way to spend an evening together as a family.

I really wanted to capture the fun of the day and it had been a while since we last made a vlog, so I filmed our day!

Can’t wait to see what we get up to for our family night next month 😊

Do you like amusement parks?

How do you feel about rollercoasters?

  1. I LOVE THAT YOU GUYS BROUGHT SADIE TO KENNYWOOD! You and your siblings use to love going each summer – either on the school day, or just with your cousins when they came to town!
I do like amusement parks – just not as much as I use to. I like walking around and people watching :))
I’m ok with roller coasters – I’m not ok with spinny rides – at all.
It seems like Deck loved watching big sis have fun– soon they’ll be able to ride together!
    Love you

    1. It was seriously such a fun evening! We definitely went on a good day crowd-wise. I am with you on spin rides vs. roller coasters. After doing the tea cups at Idlewild… never again!

I cannot wait to see Sadie and Decky ride the rides together next year!
