A Quick Visit to West Virginia

I had the biggest craving to make a quick trip out to West Virginia this weekend and we managed to squeeze it in! Wheeling, WV is about 45 minutes from our house, so we left after work on Friday, went out to eat, and then walked around Cabela’s.

It was so much fun going out to eat as a family! I think it was the third time we’ve done it, so it was special. Sadie is well behaved in public, so I don’t know why we don’t do it more often?!

I guess I like to cook and save money, but it is nice to just relax and let someone else do the cooking and clean up while we enjoy each other’s company 😉

After our dinner, we headed over to Cabela’s, which is a large hunting store. I really hyped up the fish tanks and taxidermy animals for Sadie and she was overjoyed to take it all in!

All of the Christmas displays were set up and Jimmy and I were like whoa… Christmas is coming up quickly haha!

I’ve just been so focused on fall, Thanksgiving, and the upcoming arrival of baby boy that I kind of forgot Christmas is next month!

After walking around Cabela’s, we stopped at Target (we needed to get cat food for Malcolm 😂) and then drove home. It was a late night, but so worth it for the sweet family time!

What’s your favorite quick trip near where you live?

  1. So adorable!! I’m glad you go to fit it in your schedule- I haven’t been there in a couple of years 🥹.
Going out to dinner with a toddler is sometimes challenging- but picking out a buffet style / soup and salad bar restaurant is smart!!
    Cute pics of y’all ❤️

  2. I am not at all a hunter (although I think it would be a valuable skill to learn), but I have always enjoyed Cabella’s. Even when I was full on vegan I loved the displays. LOL. I don’t know why, it’s just such a cool store. The closest one to me is over an hour away, so I never visit, but I had a friend who I would visit that lived nearby and his family would always buy their pretzel twists. I would eat so many.

As for nearby places…I am almost always up for a drive. Anything within an hours drive is “close” in my opinion and worth a drive for a day adventure, but I think my favorite is a town that’s only 15 minutes from where I live and it’s basically the next town over. A small Nordic themed area with a largely elderly demographic. It’s just a safer, more chill vibe there. I go often to run, or bike, or get a coffee!
