Just like I shared our favorite toddler Thanksgiving books last month, I’m here to share our favorite Christmas books this month! There’s something so special about pulling out our bin of seasonal books for each holiday we celebrate. I hope Sadie forms special memories of this tradition as she grows up 🥰
We don’t do the whole Santa thing, so these books won’t mention that aspect of Christmas. However, they’re all wonderful books that we personally own, read, and love! If you have any favorite children’s books for Christmas that you recommend, please share in the comments below!
A Very Merry Christmas Prayer by Bonnie Rickner-Jensen Ages 2-5
This is a very sweet poem-like prayer about the joys of Christmas and winter. It has cute illustrations and encourages gratitude during the holiday season!
Lift the Flap Nativity by All Zobel-Nolan Ages 3-5
Children can open 40 flaps in this book and trace the events leading up to Jesus’ birth as well as shortly afterwards. I love that it includes scripture references, too!
The Story of Christmas by Patricia A. Pingry Ages 2-5
This short book tells the story of Christmas in 200 words–aka understandable for a toddler! At the same time as telling the story of Jesus’ birth, it gives meaning to why we celebrate Christmas.
Biscuit Gives A Gift by Alyssa Satin Capucilli Ages 2-5
A sweet board book about a puppy who gives gifts to everyone he loves! This isn’t directly about Jesus’ birth, but it’s about Christmas without the mention of Santa.
Charlie and the Christmas Kitty by Ree Drummond Ages 2-6
Ree Drummond (the Pioneer Woman!) somehow translates her classic humor to a children’s book seamlessly in this adorable story. It literally makes Sadie laugh out loud and is has a delicious sugar cookie recipe at the end 😊
A Christmas Prayer by Tiger Tales Ages 2-5
Another Christmas prayer-type book! This one is adorable and would probably appeal to a younger toddler. It has simple rhymes to encourage gratitude and joy at Christmastime.
The Christmas Story by DK Books Ages 1-4
I love how this book is illustrated! It’s beautiful and tells the tale of the first Christmas. It also includes a pop-out page at the end!

Awww, thank you! I’m so glad you instilled a love a reading in me as a child!
A Very Merry Christmas Prayer! That was a favorite over here when she was a toddler. ❤ We also really love Song of the Stars, The (Silent) Noisy Night, Long Ago on a Silent Night, Silent Night (by Lara Hawthorne), Humphrey's First Christmas, and Goodnight Manger. Hooray for Christmas books!
Yay! Thank you for these recommendations! Going to look them up right now!
