Celebrating Our Boys

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Now that it’s Wednesday as I finally type up this post, I’m here to discuss ours 🙂

Jimmy turned 28 on Saturday! My sister’s husband, Josh, turned 21 on Friday, so Hannah and I hosted a cookout at her house for our birthday boys.

Yes, they planned to wear the same outfit, LOL.

The preparations started on Friday with some baking! I made cherry cheesecake and red velvet cupcakes, as requested by Jimmy and Josh. On Saturday morning, I took Jimmy’s truck to the car wash as a little birthday treat since he loves having a clean vehicle.

Funny story about the cupcakes… we got to Hannah and Josh’s house and someone set the cupcakes on a grill, which was then moved, and the cupcakes fell off the grill! Thankfully, they were in my handy dandy cupcake containers and survived the fall. They just ended up looking a little ugly 😉

For the frosting, I combined vanilla buttercream and cream cheese frosting and Jimmy literally said it was the best frosting he ever had. Too funny, because I only did that due to the fact that I didn’t have enough cream cheese to make a full batch of cream cheese frosting!

The party was such a fun time! We had our families over and grilled chicken, burgers, and hot dogs. We talked, relaxed, the boys opened gifts, and we played kan jam.

Oh, and no get together with our families is complete without dogs, right? We had four dogs at Hannah’s house, and to say Mavis was tuckered out by the end of the day would be a total understatement.

It was so nice to have our families together for the afternoon. Hannah’s in-laws, my father-in-law and his wife, and my parents go to our church, so we all see each other every week, but there’s nothing like sitting down to a meal together and just hanging out, you know?

Also, can you see how adorably Hannah and Josh’s house is decorated in some of these pictures? Hannah has done such a wonderful job with that. I think I need her to give me some pointers because Jimmy and I have been in our house almost four years and we still have some bare walls 😉

It was a great day and I hope our boys went to bed Saturday night feeling loved, happy, and appreciated for the amazing men they are!

The rest of the weekend was just as lovely as Saturday. Sunday was spent at church and Monday was our big garden planting day! I will be back to detail that exciting endeavor soon 🙂

  1. Such a great party it was!! The food and fellowship were amazing ~ and what would a ‘Smith’ party be without a zillion dogs?
Your cupcakes were so delicious, and I agree with Jimmy about the frosting!!!
I’m glad Mavis was actually tuckered out – after all, she was def the tiny one of the bunch.
Can’t wait to read about your garden planting day (although it was prob 90 degrees that day 😳)
    Love you!

  2. Sounds like a fun party! Isn’t it funny how the forced cooking chances end up being the best? Like you run out of something so have to quickly throw something else in and it ends up working out so well? I’m glad that’s how the frosting worked for you!

The picture of you, Hannah, Mavis and her dog are absolutely adorable! I love the little baby bump you have Ally 🙂

  3. Was a great time and reading this reminds of everything! The food was great and the fellowship even better!

  4. Fun, fun, fun!! I love that the boys dressed alike! So funny! It looks like you guys had such a wonderful time celebrating their birthdays. 🙂 And I love that you guys all go to the same church! Family is so spread out for us that I can’t imagine getting to go to church with all our family. Or even live in the same general area for that matter. Anyway, happy birthday to the birthday boys and a big congrats on the best cupcake frosting ever. 😉 Oh, and thanks for the link to the cupcake holders! Those will come in handy for us this summer. 🙂

    1. It really was such a fun day! I thought it was too cute that the boys dressed alike. It is such a blessing to live so near to family. I hope you guys get to experience that in some way some day!!I hope you like the cupcake holders! They are awesome. I first discovered them for Hannah’s bridal shower and almost just threw them away after (since they’re plastic) but my mom convinced me to keep them so I washed them and have used them so, so many times since!

  5. That’s so fun that they dressed alike! You all will share such wonderful birthday celebrations together in the decades to come. Those cupcakes look amazing and I love the sound of that frosting.

    1. You’re right, we have decades of birthday celebrations to come (Lord Willing of course!) and that is amazing!! Thanks for the compliments on my cupcakes 🙂
