I feel like I haven’t talked much about reading lately, so this post is going to change that!
I’ve been camped out in the book of James (in the Bible) for a while now, just rereading it over and over. Also loving Psalms and Proverbs. Soon, I’ll begin studying Jesus’ birth as the holiday season is approaching! I finished my Women of The Bible devotional and really enjoyed it.
I’ve read a few birth/midwifery/pregnancy-related books recently: Midwife: A Calling by Peggy Vincent, Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin, Midwife: A Journey by Peggy Vincent, and Baby Love by Rebecca Walker. Of those four, I most enjoyed the books by Peggy Vincent. I could read midwife memoirs all. day. long. 🙂
Fiction-wise, I read Dog Crazy by Meg Donohue and The Balance Project by Susie Orman Schnall, both of which were good reads. Non-fiction I’ve read lately includes, This is Where You Belong by Melody Warnick and Cherish by Gary Thomas. Both also wonderful reads.
I’m currently reading The Runaway Midwife by Patricia Harman, and it’s pretty good. I’m interested to see how it will end! Also reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren during my devotional and Bible time.
I think that’s everything in terms of books, so how about some cute dog pictures?! I have been taking Mavis pet sitting with me in an effort to socialize her more, and it’s so much fun.
She has now spent time with small dogs, big dogs, playful dogs, and calm dogs. She’s been in other people’s houses, in the car, and even had a “tea party” with the puppy above! And by tea party I mean they shared food, haha. Also, Lola continues to impress me with how patient she is with Mavis.
Mavis also spent an evening with her cousin, Indy (my sister’s puppy!), and had a blast. They get along really, really well. Hannah and I just love seeing them play together. I can’t imagine what it would be like to see our actual children play together. I think my heart would explode from happiness?!
In other news, Jimmy thinks I’m becoming a dog. So much so that when I took a nap after a full day of dog walking, he took this picture of me with a snapchat filter.
It’s okay, though, because I deserved it for creeping on him while vlogging. I just love hearing whatever random things he says when he walks in the door after work, so whenever I’m vlogging I try to catch him in the act. I creeped on him in the vlog below around the 7:40 mark.
Alright, this post is getting quite long and I need to get my day started!
Your little puppy is so cute! I just read two of Candace Cameron Bure’s books and they were really good!
Aww, thanks Laura!! I read both of those a few years back and loved them, too!!
I just finished “Secrets of a Charmed Life” by Susan Meissner and loved it! It looks live Mavis is much better after the neighbor’s dog attacked him which is awesome. I hope he doesn’t get scared when you go towards him to pick him up.
Also I totally meant “like” not “live”, oops!
That is one of my absolute favorite books, Maureen! Like I was sad when it was over, haha!!
Mavis has been doing much, much better!!
A part of me wants it to become a movie but the other part is scared it would get ruined! I absolutely loved the story and couldn’t wait to see what ended up happening with it all.
I’m so glad to hear that!
Omg those pups are all so cute! I love that you post so many dog pics 🙂 makes me happy!
I just finished the book “Commonwealth” by Ann Patchett and it was amazing!
Sometimes I feel like everyone must get annoyed that I post so many dog pictures, so I’m glad to hear you’re loving them 🙂
I’ll have to check out “Commonwealth”!!
NO!! I will never get annoyed with that haha 🙂
Let me know if you check out that book!
James is my favorite book of the Bible… if I HAD to pick. 🙂 Soooo good!!
Same here! It’s just FULL of encouragement!
I love the dog pics! I just finished a book called What Made Maddie Run, which was super sad but offered a lot of insights on teenagers, sports, and depression/anxiety. I’m now looking through a yoga for athletes book but haven’t started seriously reading anything yet. I have a few books on my to read list but am saving those for my cruise in a few weeks.
BTW, thanks for the sweet card last week. I really appreciate it and it made my day. It’s been really great reading your blog all these years and becoming friends <3.
Aww, that book that you just finished sounds like a really good one, even if it’s sad. Yoga for athletes sounds cool! That would be something I’d love!
YAY for your cruise! I cannot wait to hear about it! I am also so glad you got the card!! And even more glad we’re friends, Amy!! ❤
Those pictures of Mavis are just so adorable! She looks like she’s really adjusting and so sweet. ❤ Also, those books sound fantastic! I'm currently looking for a new women's devotional, so I may have to look into what you mentioned. 🙂
Aww, thank you!! Mavis is blending in with our little family so well!! I can send you the women’s devotional book it you want it?!
Oh my goodness, really?? I would love it! What would you like for it? Thanks! ❤
I don’t want anything for it! It will be yours to keep or pass on once you’re finished! Just email me your address and I’ll ship it to ya 🙂
Thank you very much! That is so sweet of you. ❤ I'll go ahead and send you an email. Thanks again!!
So many good reads lately! I love the book of James. So so practical. Lots of good stuff in there. And look at Mavis with all those dogs. You are really doing so great at socializing her! And the Snapchat of you with the puppy filter – hilarious! Definitely appropriate considering your love of dogs. 😉
Breakfast for dinner was a go-to meal for nights when my dad was cooking when I was growing up so I always think of him when we have it. And girl, surf & turf is always a winner in my book. Fancy and delicious. YUM!
I used to run into the issue with Aldi not opening until 9 all the time because I’m an early riser. I hear you on that.
I haven’t made Oreo’s food in so long, but seeing you make food for Mavis and Lola makes me want to do it again. I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen regularly, though. Maybe I need to make him some homemade treats at least. 🙂
Malcolm’s harness is so cute! I love that little bow!
James is definitely one of my favorite books of the Bible for the exact reasons you mentioned!! Thank you for the compliments about Mavis and her socialization! It has been fun and hard work, but totally worth it!
Awesome Allie hanks for sharing!!
Dad
🙂
Love you, Dad!!
Oh my goodness, that photo of Mavis sitting with the other puppy is just too cute! ❤
Aww, thanks, Grace!! My heart was melting when I saw them sitting together and I just had to take a picture!
Awww, Mavis is just sooo cute 🙂 I’m so happy to hear you’re socializing her– that makes all the difference in how their personalities develop!
Just because I’ve noticed you love midwife books– are you interested in becoming one? Or do you just read them for fun? 🙂
Thanks, Brittany!! I have been loving having her meet other dogs and new people! It’s so cute to see her discover the world and get her confidence back 🙂
I’d LOVE to become a midwife, but I don’t know if I want to go back to school, haha!! Reading them for fun its enough for me.. for now!
Your dogs are adorable. The tea party sounds like the cutest thing, haha!
Thank you, P! The tea party was as cute as it sounds!!
