Traveling

Back to Reality

We’re settled in back at home from our trip to North Carolina. It was hard leaving the beach and my parents after having over a week of time together to relax. At the same time, we missed our pets and Jimmy and I both had work obligations to get back to (lots of baking orders for me and a training for a new machine for Jimmy).

We left the Outer Banks at 9:00 pm on Thursday night and arrived in the ‘Burgh at 5:00 am on Friday. Jimmy was a trooper again and drove the whole way. The kids slept the entire drive and I was on and off sleeping, so I wasn’t toooo tired once we were home.

We came home in the middle of a massive heat wave for Pittsburgh. It was odd being at the beach where it was 80 degrees and sunny, with a cool ocean breeze to coming straight into a wall of humidity and 95 degree temperatures in Pittsburgh.

Our neighborhood had a family fun night on Friday, so we dressed as cool as possible and had a couple of hours of outdoor play with all the families in our neighborhood. It was the perfect way to kick off being back at home!

Saturday kicked off a few days of baking for me, starting with chocolate covered oreos. As soon as I finished those, I prepped sugar cookie dough for cutouts for the same order.

Jimmy also worked on Saturday and I picked up Niva from boarding. She literally hugged me when we were reunited. It was so cute! The $500+ bill for like 10 days of boarding was not as cute 😆 but I know she was in good hands, so it was worth it.

It was still in the 90s on Saturday, so in the evening we set up a slip ‘n slide for the kids. They both played on it for quite a while, which allowed me to fold laundry and do some real estate work. It was a busy day!

Do you have a love/hate relationship with coming home from a trip?

Our Trip to the Outer Banks 2023

We made the trek to the Outer Banks for our family summer vacation and had the best time. It’s wild to think that my parents brought me and my siblings to the Outer Banks as we grew up and now we’re bringing our kids there.

It’s really neat to show Sadie all the sights that I loved as a child and see them again through her eyes. (more…)
