The Great Shoe Debate, Tiny Toes, and Togetherness

If you would have told me that I’d spend forty-five minutes debating the true color of a sneaker, I might have questioned my sanity. But that’s just how things are sometimes. 😉

One minute we’re celebrating Passover and finding quiet moments at the library, and the next, we’re gathered around a pair of shoes like it’s the evening news and even bringing extended family into the debate. From the kitchen to the sidewalk, here’s a snapshot of the togetherness that filled our week!

The Great Shoe Debate 👟

We took a walk on Sunday evening and Sadie asked to play I Spy as we walked. I said “I Spy something yellow.” and nobody could guess what the yellow thing was. It wasn’t a daffodil or street sign like everyone kept guessing.

Finally, I gave in and said “My shoes!” and an uproar happened in the middle of the street. 😂

Jimmy and Sadie were adamant that my shoes were not yellow. So, I texted our family and asked them to settle the debate. Honestly, opinions were mixed. A few family members said yellow immediately, some said brown, and others said tan or even gold.

Jimmy made me put my foot near a flower to apparently show the shoe’s “true color.”

We’re all still very divided. What’s your opinion? 💛

Cousin Day 👯‍♀️

We had my brother’s oldest daughter over one day this week! We celebrated Passover and made our homeschool lesson all about the ten plagues, the crossing of the Red Sea, and the Passover meal. It’s so neat that both of my siblings homeschool their kids and that our oldest children are all in the same grade! It makes it easy to hang out on weekdays and combine lessons. 😊

I also brought the girls to Lego Club at the library. They were so focused! They literally built thing after thing for almost two hours straight!

Lunch was a McDonald’s picnic.

And in the evening, we went to the thrift store to buy clothes for their baby dolls. Sadie ended up picking out earrings and had Jimmy pierce her doll’s ears. Add that to the list of things he never thought he’d do in life. 😉

It was such a great day! I’m looking forward to planning a special day with my sister’s oldest daughter soon, too! Having family nearby is one of the biggest blessings in life! ❤️

In the Kitchen 🍳

I got up to all sorts of different things in the kitchen this week! First and foremost, I cracked an egg for breakfast one morning and found a double yolk inside. I was so excited that I had to take a picture for Sadie. She has asked me a few times if that has ever happened to me and it has happened like two or three times in my life!

I made a big batch of chicken and broccoli alfredo. I changed up my usual recipe by using alfredo sauce, chicken thighs, and adding bacon!

I’m always interested to see what each kid thinks of the things I cook. Sadie wouldn’t touch it, Dakota loved the noodles, and Mordecai was all about the chicken!

I had a few baking orders leading up to Easter! One was granola. I made a batch of gingerbread granola and maple apple granola (pictured below!).

Someone ordered a cherry pie (with my favorite crust recipe!) and another customer requested Easter-themed chocolate covered Oreos! I hadn’t decorated Oreos in quite some time so it felt great to use my creative muscles again. 🙂

We had some matzah leftover from celebrating Passover. I melted white chocolate and spread it over the matzah, then I crumbled Oreos on top and drizzled a little melted chocolate on top of that for good measure!

Lots of good stuff going on in our kitchen lately. What have you been baking or cooking recently?

Tiny Toes and All the Other Moments 💅

Is there anything cuter than a baby with painted toenails?!

Baby's painted toenails

My mom and dad gave miss Dakota Piggy Paint for Easter and I couldn’t wait to polish up her little tootsies!

Mom and daughters

We spent time at church!

Boy with bubble leaf blower

Mordecai brought his beloved bubble leaf blower to Jimmy’s work. He showered everyone with bubbles!

Kids riding their bikes

The big kids rode their bikes.

Paper with googly eyes

Sadie fell off of her bike and as soon as we got home, Mordecai got out our craft supplies and carefully glued a bunch of googly eyes onto a piece of paper and gave it to Sadie as a gift to help her feel better. It was the sweetest thing. Him offering up one of his favorite things (googly eyes!!) was a big deal!

These two sat in Niva’s empty food dish holder together and thought it was so funny!

I put the above outfit on Dakota and Mordecai said “Aww, she looks so cute!”

Girl reading in bed

Sadie and I snuggled in my bed and read! She has been enjoying I Like Cheese by Salina Yoon.

Sometimes she just falls asleep, though!

Dad with son on his shoulders while he pushes stroller

We got out in the sunshine (when we had it 😉). Mordecai is too cute. He will ride his bike and when he gets tired, he’ll just stop and suck his thumb, like I can’t do this anymore! That’s when dad’s shoulders come in handy.

Kids petting a rabbit on a table

My sister-in-law took the kids to an Easter event where they had their faces painted and got to pet rabbits! Sadie was amazed that they didn’t hop off the table.

Our neighbor went away and we got to pet sit her dogs!

Towel rack in bathroom

Jimmy installed a new towel rack in our bathroom!

That has been life around here lately. Some time outside, silly moments, sweet moments, and everything in between! I have more to share but this post is getting long. I’ll blog about our Easter next!

Other Notes and Thoughts 📝

  • Scripture I’m loving: For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13 🙏🏻
  • I was cooking eggplant with Mordecai and he asked “Why is it called an eggplant if it’s not an egg?” and I was stumped! 🍆
  • When I change the kids and help them get their shirts off, I always say “arms up” before I pull their shirt off. I took Niva for a walk the other day and was taking her leash off and I said “arms up.” 😂

How was your Easter?

Have you added anything new to your home lately?
