Life lately has included a vet appointment for our cat, a library night, cooking, baking, and some random things Dakota has swallowed. You know, the usual randomness over here! 😉
In the Kitchen 🍽️
Is there anything cozier than a pot of chuck roast simmering with vegetables all day? It felt like the perfect meal for a cold January evening.
Okay, actually, maybe baking chocolate chip cookies on a cold evening is cozier?!
I was working on a new recipe but they didn’t come out just right so it’s back to the drawing board!
We also made cinnamon rolls this week with an educational kit Mordecai was given for his birthday. We had fun putting these together.
Other things I cooked and baked this week: gingerbread granola, maple apple granola, coconut almond granola, and freezer lunch sandwiches.
Out and About 🐈⬛
Mr. Malcolm had his annual vet appointment and did great! He is healthy and thriving. I almost fell over when the vet tech referred to him as a senior. He’s nine now… how?! Didn’t we just adopt him?
I just love Malcolm so much! I would have 10 cats if I could guarantee they would be just like him. 🖤
We went to the library for a Valentine’s Day card-making night for the kids.
Jimmy joined us at our happy place and it was a nice family night. 😊
We did a school day in our homeschool room, too.
Sadie had an ultrasound on her toe for the cyst she has. We are waiting to officially hear from the podiatrist, but based off of reading the ultrasound report, it seems to be a benign ganglion cyst!
We went out for ice cream with Jimmy’s sister and Sadie brought a friend along. Nothing like ice cream on a 20 degree night! 😂
And Jimmy brought the big kids outside to build a shelter in the snow!
Home Life 🏡
On the home front, Dakota swallowed a couple of random things this week. The first one being a foam heart from one of Sadie’s Valentine’s cards.
Imagine my surprise when I went to change Dakota’s diaper and there was a heart staring back at me. Yikes! I changed her diaper the next day and found a button and either pieces of Nerds candy or play-doh. 🤷🏼♀️
Mordecai and Dakota got into some trouble in our cabinet! They dumped everything out while I was doing a math lesson with Sadie. Ya win some, ya lose some! Also, those divided plates? We’ve had those since Sadie was a baby and they’ve held up so well.
I checked the baby monitor in the girls’ room and saw Sadie getting Dakota out of her crib in the morning! So sweet.
Is there anything more precious than a sleeping baby?
I made some overnight oats in mini Lowe’s buckets for my sis (with Mordecai’s stuffed cat overseeing the process). I realized I’ve never shared my base overnight oats recipe here on the blog. I need to do that soon! I love coming up with different flavor variations.
And Dakota played peek-a-boo in our curtains.
Other Notes and Thoughts 📝
- We’re more than halfway to the start of spring!🌷
- Scripture I’m loving: “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2 🙏🏻
- Dakota took a few steps using a push toy on Wednesday! It’s always magical seeing your baby take their first steps. I can’t wait to see her walk independently soon. I will miss her sideways crawl, though! 🦶
- Mordecai has this pounding toy and he taught Dakota how to use it this week. They were both so proud of their teamwork. 👶🏼👦🏼
- Dakota is officially in the stage of being able to open our laundry chute and throw random things down it. I have washed a few rattles and stuffed animals by accident in the past week. 😂
- I’m almost finished with this novel! It’s a nice, light read to help my brain turn off at the end of the day! 😴
That’s it for this post! We’re starting a new week here. I’m hanging out with my sister-in-law one evening, Dakota has her ear tubes surgery, and we are celebrating Valentine’s Day!
