We had a weird day last week. It was blistering hot (I think the high was 93?!) and Jimmy caught the sickness/fever that the kids had, so he stayed home from work that day. The kids woke up so excited that dad was home! But obviously he wanted to rest, so I took them out to a park.
We were all sweating, but we had a good time being the only people crazy enough to play at a park when it was in the 90s 😂
I bribed the kids to go home by promising that we would take our bounce house outside and set it up with the sprinkler. They were pumped! It was all part of my plan to get Jimmy some rest and quiet time while letting the kids have fun 😉
Once everyone was cooled off, tired out, and had lunch, it was time for Mordecai to take a nap. Something glorious happened: Mordecai and Dakota’s naps lined up! Since Jimmy was home, Sadie and I were able to leave the little ones at home and head off to paint pottery together.
We had been planning to go since Sadie finished her school year and it was finally happening! The bright side of Jimmy being home sick was that we were able to leave and have some one-on-one girl time 🥰
Sadie decided we should paint something for each other as a gift for being a good teacher/student! I painted her an ice cream bowl and she painted me a cereal bowl. We spent the afternoon chatting, painting, and are so excited to pick up our pieces from the kiln in about a week!
I was slightly on edge the entire time thinking that Jimmy would text me and say “Dakota is awake and freaking out because she’s hungry!” but she didn’t wake up until just before we got home. Whew!! What a blessing to be able to get out with my big girl. Sadie was so happy she kept squeezing my hand and smiling so big!
Once we got home, Sadie dove into a gem art project and we did dinner and then again, I tried to get Jimmy some time to rest so I walked the kids down to a park in our neighborhood.
It was a full day, but a good one. Definitely wore mommy out! I’m glad I was able to get out with Sadie girl and keep the kids busy despite the heat and Jimmy not feeling great.

so sweet – well not the part about Jimmy being sick 🥺 but the one on one time with Sadie girl!! You both got to do your favorite thing- crafting! I have definitely had a lot of weird, but good days~ out of the ordinary is sometimes the most memorable 🥰
can’t wait to see both of your finished products.
love you,
Madre
Yes, the one-on-one time was so good for us both! It was definitely a memorable day, lol.
Love you!
