Sadie fell asleep on the couch the other day crunched up in a little ball on top of a pillow. I’m curious, could you fall asleep like this?
I don’t think I could do it unless I was really tired! What kind of sleeper are you? Back, side, belly, all of the above? I am a stomach sleeper through and through!
A Date Night
Something really exciting happened this week: Jimmy and I went on a date! We are admittedly bad about going on dates since having kids. We always see any kid-free time as time to be productive and often split-off from each other and do things (house projects for him and cleaning projects for me).
I know it’s so important to take that time to do fun things together, though! So that’s what we did.
We grabbed dinner at a local restaurant (Firebirds) and then went golfing at Top Golf! Yes, it was in the 20s and dark outside but we went golfing, haha. Top Golf is a really cool concept–it’s a driving range that’s well-lit, covered, and heated!
I think the way it works is that all the golf balls have sensors/chips in them and when you hit the ball, it tells you how far and hard you hit it. Your “bay” (where you golf from) has a screen and you can play games based off of how well you golf.
As soon as we saw they had a Sonic the Hedgehog game, we decided to play that in honor of our little Sonic-lover, Sadie!! Can you tell we go out on dates and then talk about the kids the whole time?! We’re always thankful (maybe slightly desperate?) for a break from parenting… and then we miss them!
Jimmy was really good at driving the golf balls. Me, not so much! We can blame it on my center of gravity being off from my bump 😉 I always seem to beat him at mini golf, though!
It was such a great date night. We got to talk uninterrupted. Swoon! It all happened thanks to my mom and dad watching the kids (thank you mom and dad!). It’s a huge blessing to be able to have the kids spend time with their grandparents and not worry about them for one second! I think the kids even prefer their company to ours 😜
Pictures from Life Lately
Well, as per usual, I have a bunch of pictures from life lately. Here are some things we’ve been up to.
I grabbed some newborn diapers at the store to prepare for baby girl!! I am still struggling a little with feeling like “What if I buy these and something happens to her?” but I know deep inside that that’s not the way to think. Pretty much any time my thoughts begin with “what if” is when I need to stop and trust God.
We made it to the homeschool room this week and the kids loved wearing hard hats. It has been hard to get out to our little space with so many different appointments and activities lately, but that’s the beauty of homeschooling… we’ve done it at the kitchen table, the park, in the car. Learning can happen anywhere 📖
Sadie had one of her cousins over on Sunday afternoon after church and the kids played and played! Mordecai is finally at the age where he can join in on the fun and he was not happy when he had to take a nap and miss out on what the girls were up to!
Our friend (who also has a husky) offered to take Niva to her office so she could play with her dog so Niva had a grand ‘ol time running around a real estate office with her bestie 😂
The kids still think our local grocery store with mini carts is just to coolest place ever. I’ll take it, haha. Is it slightly nerve-wracking thinking they will accidentally bump into someone or a display? Yes, but it’s a great learning experience for them to be aware of their surroundings and help mom shop!
Sadie wanted to mimic Niva’s sleeping position!
Other notes:
- Sadie has her first official computer coding class tonight! I’m curious and excited to see how it goes for her!
- I have two training sessions with Niva this weekend for her therapy work. It will be good to brush up on our skills. I also wonder what therapy work will look like for us in the coming year.
- I think we’re going to do our family Valentine’s Day celebration this weekend and I can’t wait!

The only time I “sleep” in a position that at all resembles what Sadie is doing is when flying on an airplane. When I’m flying international and desperate for sleep I’ll put the tray table down and put the provided pillow on it and tryyy to sleep folded over. Just the thought makes me shudder.
I’m a side/stomach sleeper. I wish I could sleep better on my back so my face wasn’t so swollen in the morning, but I just caaann’t.
I too loved the tiny carts at grocery stores when I was younger.
Ooo, I didn’t even think about trying to sleep on an airplane! That would be HARD!
I can’t do the back/side sleeping… but I have to when I’m pregnant and it’s not my fave haha.
I love all the pics so much!! Sadie imitating Niva’s crazy sleeping positions is adorable, and Deck pushing the cart is priceless! You and Jimmy are always so photogenic!!!!!
It was a pleasure to spend time with the kids while you and Jimmy enjoyed some MUCH NEEDED AND WELL DESERVED time together!!
I am definitely a side sleeper- prob 98% of the time 😂
Unfortunately I am getting a crown (not the princess type) on Valentine’s Day, so dad and I will probably have a quiet evening at home watching Great American Family channel (as per usual).
Can’t wait to learn how Sadie does in her coding class!!
love you,
Madre 💗
The imitation pictures with Sadie and Niva crack me up! And nobody loves pushing a mini cart more than Decky, haha!
Thank you so, SO much for hanging with the kids! It was great to get out on a date!
I hope all goes well with your crown on Friday! Enjoy a quiet evening at home!
Sadie is so excited for coding! She is extra excited you get to see the school today 🙂
Love you!
