Between Christmas and the New Year

Hello from the weird, relaxing, and confusing time between Christmas and the New Year! For us, this week is usually spent tidying the house, relaxing, and planning for the year ahead.

Here’s how the week has been going for us thus far… let’s just say it has definitely had its ups and downs!

We took down our Christmas decor on the 26th and the house felt so bare! But it was also much needed, as it was feeling cramped with all of the gifts the kids had been given by family and friends. They were so spoiled and loved on this Christmas!

I brought Niva to her annual checkup and in the evening, Jimmy went to Puttery (indoor mini golf!) with friends while the kids and I made a few returns.

On the 27th, I had an iron infusion. Jimmy was able to come with me (!) and then we went out and about after. We looked at couches (Sadie kind of ruined one when she was sick 🥴), walked on a trail, and Jimmy brought Sadie to meet her friends at the trampoline park. Mordecai was all set to go but he came down with a random goopy eye and fever so I stayed home with him!

We are so torn on couches! We were pretty set on wanting to get leather for the ease of cleaning and dealing with dog fur. Jimmy *really* wants to get a Lovesac couch but we didn’t love the price and color of the leather options they had. We were looking at the fabric swatch above but I don’t know!

I’d love to hear anyone’s take on couches/pets/etc. and if anyone has a Lovesac. I love our current couches (they’re just simple gray fabric) but I have to clean them daily (Niva’s fur is unreal!) and the one is basically ruined from sickness. So we’re unsure what to do! Any advice is welcomed.

After looking at couches, we stopped by a walking trail because it was fairly warm! My mom had the kids and it felt so weird to not have a stroller or need to stop every few minutes to check out rocks/a puddle/etc. lol.

Sonic socks

Sadie was digging the Sonic socks at the trampoline park! Jimmy and my mother-in-law recently took her to see the new movie and they all loved it! It was so great for Sadie to get out to the trampoline park (she LOVES it there) and spend time with friends.

Meanwhile, goop eye boy hung out at home with me!

By the next morning, Mordecai’s eye cleared up and his fever was gone!

I, on the other hand, was not feeling so good. After 10-15+ iron infusions, I know I don’t feel great for a few days but I was feeling extra awful after this one for some reason. Overly tired, achy, and nauseous.

I made an apple pie to bring to my mother-in-law’s house that night (we were celebrating Christmas with them) and then spent pretty much the rest of the day napping and battling nausea.

Apple pie crust and apples

I felt worse and worse as the day went on and ended up throwing up and then just sleeping on and off all evening. I’m not sure if it was a side effect from the iron infusion or just a random sickness but I am still so wiped out.

I felt really bad that Jimmy had to take care of the house and the kids by himself and I missed out on celebrating Christmas at my mother-in-law’s.

Mordecai was spoiled with his very own garbage truck! Guys, he LOVES garbage trucks so much. It’s adorable. Garbage day in our neighborhood is the best day of the week for Decky and we often just watch YouTube videos of garbage trucks collecting trash. Never thought I’d do that, but here we are and I love how much he loves garbage trucks!

Now it’s Sunday the 29th. Tomorrow should be a normal Monday! Like Jimmy will go back to work and I’ll be doing school with Sadie as long as everyone is feeling good. Whew. I truly just can’t wait to feel like myself again and do normal life, haha. What a wild ride this holiday season has been for us!

I’m looking forward to New Year’s Eve and the New Year. I have a prenatal checkup on NYE (I’m so glad because being so sick has me worried about baby girl and I’ll feel relieved to check on her!) and then in the evening I’m surprising Sadie by taking her to get a pedicure together. Jimmy gave us gift cards to a local salon, so we’ll be making good use of them for a girls outing!

And that’s a wrap! Today will probably be spent resting, playing with the kids, and trying to clean up around the house when I have some energy haha.

How has the week between Christmas and the New Year been for you so far?

  1. So sorry to hear you got sick! I hope you’re feeling better now and have been able to rest.

Unfortunately, I also got a bug after Boxing Day and have spent the past two days resting. I felt so nauseous yesterday and my appetite hasn’t come back yet, I’m mostly eating toast.

It’s been a relaxing week overall, though. I still have a few days off work before getting back to normal.

    1. Aww, thank you! I am doing like 95% better now! I think that’s the only “good” thing about stomach bugs… they’re pretty fast. Still, no fun! I am so sorry you got sick, too. I know you can relate to those “off” feelings. It’s the worst! I hope you’re better now too!! Happy New Year, by the way!

  2. I feel so bad you, Sadie and Deck have gone from one sickness to another over the past few weeks. Let’s hope the New Year brings in NO MORE ILLNESSES!

Decky and his garbage truck obsession is seriously so cute! He spots them, and diggers along the roadside so fast!

I really want a piece of apple pie right now… I’m sure they all enjoyed it at Grama D’s!

Dad and I went to the church service here in the Outer Banks @ Son Rise Church of Christ and the preacher’s sermon was basically entitled the same as your blog post – that awk time between Christmas and New Years (especially because they fall on a Wednesday this year). For people that work full time – its like, do I start the week… take those days off… do I finish the week after… or take those days off?? Just take them all off!! LOL

    Love you,

    Madre
