How We Spent Mordecai’s First Birthday

Just like that, a year with our sweet little guy has gone by in the blink of an eye. His birthday fell on a Monday this year, so we balanced having a normal day with doing special things to celebrate our little guy.

It was the perfect day! Minus one little part… but we’ll get to that at the end of this post, lol.

We started the day with our usual routine of Sadie going into Mordecai’s room when he woke up. Those two love that play time each day and I love watching it from the baby monitor so I don’t interrupt their bonding!

Once we were all up and dressed, we went out for a special breakfast at Starbucks. Mordecai enjoyed a vanilla bean scone and mama had a coffee. Our light eater (Sadie Mae!) had some coffee-scented air 😂

I wanted to do something extra fun for the kids to celebrate Mordecai’s big day, so we went to the local gymnastics gym for preschool playtime. It’s just an hour of free play on the gymnastic equipment and the perfect way for kids to get their wiggles out and do kid things!

Both Sader Tot and Mordecai definitely enjoyed themselves. Sadie went from the beam to the bars to the trampoline and everything in between about 100 times and Mordecai and I were happy to follow her.

After gymnastics it was bath and nap time. Mordecai didn’t sleep very long, so we had time to visit Jimmy at work before the day ended!

From there, we went to the grocery store to get food for a special dinner. We made a similar meal to the one we had the night before Mordecai was born! Steak, salmon, and pretzel bites.

Sadie requested we sing happy birthday to Mordecai before we ate and it was such a sweet moment. He had no clue what was going on, but was smiling up a storm!

After dinner, the kids were playing with a cardboard box and Malcolm was feeling playful, too. You know how cats are with hiding in boxes and batting? Mordecai’s face was the recipient of Malcolm’s playful moment 😕

Mordecai took the scratch like a champ and we made sure to clip Malcolm’s nails after that experience, lol. I’m so glad Malcolm missed Mordecai’s eye.

We had a really great day celebrating Mordecai! Our little guy is so special to our family and brings us all joy. Here’s to another year of fun with Decky 🖤
