If you’ve ever wanted to have Target basically all to yourself I have a secret. Just go during trick-or-treating time on Halloween.
We don’t celebrate Halloween and Sadie was at our church’s Halloween Alternative for kids, so Jimmy, Mordecai, and I went to Target to grab a few groceries and it was one of the most relaxing Target trips I’ve ever had.
We did the same thing a few years ago and it was glorious. We saw all the Christmas merchandise being set out, too.
Sadie loves to go into Mordecai’s room each morning when he wakes up and it’s the sweetest thing. I looked on his baby monitor and caught them smiling at each other.
I think back to a year ago and I was filled with trepidation about adding a family member and now I can’t imagine life without Mordecai. Sadie has adjusted so well and is a wonderful big sister.
Both of the kids ended up getting the same sickness I had (but much worse, unfortunately) and it was not fun. Poor Sadie spent pretty much a whole night throwing up and Mordecai did the next day. It’s so pitiful seeing them helpless and sick like that. Thankfully they’re all better and back in action!
Niva has been having all sorts of fun lately. She will be on week three of her therapy dog training this week. We worked on “come” at home (huskies are notoriously bad with recall 😂) and she also had her best friend over for a play date!
Sadie and I are on a chapter book reading spree lately! We finished Diary of an Ice Princess and are now reading Itty Bitty Princess Kitty.
Mordecai has been living his best baby life in dog pajamas.
I wonder how much longer Jimmy and I will be able to hold both kids at the same time. Cherishing these days!
Time to get this week started! We survived the time change here. I’m not looking forward to it being dark earlier and also weird sleep schedules as the kids adjust but here we are. We’ll make the most of it 😊
This week we have school (need to catch up from being sick!), Niva’s training, homeschool co-op, and probably a million random things in between 😉
Bye until next time!

Sadie going into Mordecai’s room each morning when he wakes up is the sweetest!
Love 💕 You
Dad
🙂
Sadie and Deck together is so so so precious. They are BFF’s, and most likely soon to be partners in crime (just sayin’). It was pitiful knowing that they both ended up with the horrible (thankfully short lived) stomach bug.
Niva and Runey together is also so cute – they’re a bit crazy, but still cute. Also BFF’S!
Love you!,
Madre
Hahaha partners in crime?! NO!
It was pitiful seeing them both sick, but thankfully they bounced back so fast! I wish I could get over sickness like that still haha. Definitely takes me an extra day or two 😉
Niva and Runah are so adorable together. I am continually thankful we met her and her “mom” haha.
Love you!!
Aw, sorry they’ve been sick 😦
Out of curiosity, how does Sadie cope with not doing Halloween? Does she understand the reasons or feel like she is missing out? Speaking as a person who doesn’t celebrate Halloween either!
Thank you! They bounced back much more quickly than I did, thankfully!
She seems to cope well with not doing Halloween. She thinks a lot of the decorations are scary, but I think the biggest thing she feels she misses is the trick or treat experience. She also blanks out when adults are like “What are you dressing up as for Halloween?!” because her young mind doesn’t quite know how to *explain* it all yet.
We talked to her about why we don’t celebrate and I think she’s starting to understand (as much as a five-year-old can). It has been a big help that our church does something during trick or treat time for the kids so they’re not sitting around on Halloween and watching other kids run from door to door and get candy, lol!
Thank you for asking that question!! It actually helped me reflect a lot on how I can help her understand things better and meet her needs 🥰
That was really interesting to read! Yes, it can be difficult because adults will ask about Halloween assuming that all kids celebrate it. Do you guys not celebrate because it’s a pagan holiday?
Yes, everyone seems to assume that everyone celebrates it! And you hit the nail on the head, we don’t like its pagan roots!
