I know, pretty random title for a blog post! Okay, fellow cat owners, have you heard of Soft Claws?
They’re nail caps for cats as an alternative to declawing when dealing with scratching. Our Malcolm boy is pretty destructive with his nails. He’s ruined our curtains and fabric chairs and benches, but that’s to be expected. He has been scratching Sadie lately, so we decided to try out Soft Claws (<–affiliate link!).
Malcolm is great with allowing us to clip his nails, so getting the nail caps on him wasn’t too hard. We applied them on Friday night and he has only lost two over the past few days. That’s a win in my book because I thought he would have them all off within minutes. He looks pretty cute with green nails!
Onto swimming! My mom, Sadie, and I spent the day together last week and decided to take Sadie for a dip in the pool at my parents’ local YMCA and it was a ton of fun!
Sadie took a little bit to warm up to the idea, especially after she accidentally went underwater, but by the end of our outing, she was splashing and screaming with joy. I can’t wait to do it again soon 🙂
I’ve been trying to think of fun little crafts for Sadie to do while we patiently await the arrival of spring weather and can play outside as much as possible. I had the bright idea to buy a couple of bags of dried beans and put them in a big tote with containers and scoops so she could pour the beans and keep it all contained within the tote.
She thought it would be great to put all the beans on the floor and also eat as many as she could stuff into her mouth, lol!
At first I was like, man this is a fail. Then I realized that she was having a lot of fun, even if it didn’t go as I intended. So, I’d say it was a win. I think that’s how it is in life sometimes, too. We plan something and it doesn’t go as we thought it would, but it ends up being awesome in its own way, you know?
Okay, well I better get my day started! We recently filmed a vlog that shows what a day in our life is like, so watch that if you want to get an idea of what we’ll be up to. Basically working, playing, and getting into all sorts of random fun 🙂
I’m dying at Malcolm with the soft claws on. It looks like you gave him a pedicure!
I think it’s great you switched from thinking the dried beans were a fail to a success. Sadie enjoyed herself which is what matters right?
Every time I see his nails they just look like mini jelly beans to me and I just love it hahah!!
Amen to Sadie enjoying those beans! A definite win 🙂
I’ve never heard of these soft claws! How clever. I’m amazed that Malcolm actually keeps them on. I’m glad swimming was fun for Sadie even with a rough start. And hey, definitely a win that Sadie was having fun even if it wasn’t the original way you had planned.
Just finished watching the vlog! You are going to love having that day-in-the-life snapshot video later on! Hearing her little voice and seeing her doing her signs is so precious. And I’m so glad that Mavis was such a part of this video too. Sweet on many levels. And hey, hooray for finding the air pod!
They really are so neat! I think they make them for dogs, too! I wish I would have heard of them when we had Lola because her nails were always clacking on the ground, lol!
Thanks for watching the vlog! I am already loving looking back on vlogs from when she was a little younger and it makes me so happy! I need to keep doing them from time to time 🙂
Malcolms nails look awesome!! I hope they’re still working for you guys!
Photographing Sadie while she swam with her mama in the Y pool was so much fun!! I’m so glad you were consistent and brought her in slowly ~ it worked~ she loved it!!
I’m glad she had fun with the beans~ sometimes messy games/ideas are the most fun (but not for who ever has to clean it up 😖😖)
Hahah, never thought you would say that about a cat’s nails! They’re still on! Woo hoo!!
Thanks for taking all of the sweet pictures of Sadie and me in the pool! I truly had such a great day with you guys ❤
I love you! ❤
I’ve never heard of soft claws, but I really should look into them!! The cats have ruined a piece of furniture or two… and our kids do get scratched occasionally. Worth checking out, for sure!!
And oh my goodness, I love the dried beans idea for playtime! I just introduced my kiddos to bins filled with rice, but the rice is so small that it ends up all over the house. HA!!! I think I may have to experiment with beans next. 😉 It sounds like fun!! 🙂
Yes! If your cats are okay with having their nails clipped, then the soft claws won’t be too hard to put on! They have been awesome thus far! They were only like $8, so totally worth it in my book to save our arms/faces/furniture haha!
I’m sure Sadie would spread rice all through the house, too!! So funny how kids like to make messes! I hope you guys have fun with the beans if you give them a try! 🙂
