Hi and happy Saturday! I just wanted to pop in and share some things I’ve been loving lately. I enjoy looking back on posts like this and seeing what I was cherishing in my life at the time.
So, here are a few things I’ve been loving lately.
Decorating
At the beginning of 2015, I made a goal to decorate mine and Jimmy’s house more, but the process has been pretty slow. Okay, extremely slow. I want things to be “just right” and I’m picky. This combination of factors means that Jimmy and I have been living in a house with blank walls, no curtains, and ugly paint colors in most rooms. We’re okay with it though, because making a house a home takes time (and we know how incredibly blessed we are to have a home!).
We have so many improvements and updates we want to make–and we will–in due time. The process is half the fun! Anyways, my mom and dad gave me a gift card to TJ Maxx for Christmas, so I was able to buy a few things for our mantel and bathroom. I’m currently obsessed with succlents, and picked up a few to display around the house. Every time I see them I get so happy!
Eight O’Clock Coffee
I’m a big fan of coffee. Not just for the effects of caffeine or the taste, but mostly the rituals that go with it. Reading my Bible, writing in my journal, and savoring a warm mug of coffee in the morning is one of the best parts of my day. Jimmy and I have slowly turned into coffee freaks. It started when he gave me a Keurig for our three-year dating anniversary in 2011. We have explored different coffee shops around Pittsburgh, ground our own beans, fell in love with Starbucks, and on and on. We were grocery shopping at Walmart and Jimmy suggested we try Eight O’Clock Coffee beans. I’ll admit I was skeptical because they were so cheap (like less than $5 for a bag!). We gave Eight O’Clock a try and we’re hooked!
Coloring
I bought an adult coloring book over the summer and it has proved to be a phenomenal way to unwind at the end of the day. Who am I kidding, though, I actually pulled out my coloring book first thing this morning! I bought my mom and sister coloring books for Christmas, and they keep sending me pictures of pages they’ve colored. I’m hoping to plan a coloring party with them soon.
Sleep
Having Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Friday this holiday season meant that Jimmy and I both had off work and were able to get some extra sleep. Having a slow, lazy morning after a good night of sleep is a huge blessing that I’ve relished lately.
One thing I’m not loving…
Getting a drone stuck in my hair! Jimmy and his brother were playing with a mini drone in our office while I was on the computer and they accidentally flew it into my hair. Luckily they were able to get it out without having to cut my hair. We all got a good laugh at of that one, more so once the drone was free ;).
I love coloring 🙂 My Dad really wanted a drone this year but we all thought he wouldn’t use it so I’m glad to see your husband and his brother enjoying theirs! Sleeping in has been the biggest blessing this holiday season!
Coloring is just the best! So relaxing. And yes, Jimmy and his brother may be enjoying their drones a little too much ;). If you’re still looking for a drone for your dad (maybe Father’s Day?!) the one that was stuck in my hair was only $20!!
Amen to sleeping in! It’s magical!
I love trying new coffee, regardless of the price. I am often skunked, but you never know until you try! Glad you got the drone out. 😉
Trying new coffee is always such a fun adventure! It’s the worst getting skunked, but if it’s cheap and terrible I don’t feel as bad, haha. I am so glad they got the drone out, too! I was thinking I was going to get a surprise haircut LOL.
I’ve been enjoying how frequently you have been blogging. Does that count? Ha, as you know I’m a big fan of coffee too. I do like 8 o’clock coffee as well.
Thanks, Hollie!! That means a lot! I’ve been enjoying it, too. It just feels good to be back in this space and sharing and catching up with my favorite blog friends :). Yay for Eight O’Clock Coffee!! You are the coffee connoisseur, too, so I know it’s good if you like it!
Oh no!!! Ha, ha! Well, not too many people can say that they’ve had a drone stuck in their hair! 🙂 I’m glad it was able to come out without the use of snipping. 🙂
I really need to buy myself a coloring book! 🙂
I think I’ve said this before, but I definitely have the same decorating technique! I take awhile to finish a room… but I always end up loving it, because I took my time with it. 🙂 I love the decor you’ve added so far!!
And we really like Eight O’clock coffee too!!
Haha yes, very true! It will be a good story to tell at parties/get-togethers ;). I’m so glad I didn’t get a surprise haircut, either. That would have been quite interesting!
You really do need a coloring book in your life!! I think you would love it because you’re so artistically creative!
I love that we have the same decorating technique! I totally agree with you on taking our time and then loving the eventual, slow outcome! Also, yay for Eight O’Clock Coffee! It’s the bomb!
That’s so crazy that the drone got stuck in your hair! You have great hair though- mine used to be thicker and curlier and I got anemic a few years ago… that sucked for hair. I started taking biotin and mine’s much nicer now, thank goodness! I love your decorations and TJ Maxx is def. the place to go for things around the house like decor. You gotta buy something when you see it though because it won’t be there when ya go back!
Haha, seriously! I totally thought I was going to get a surprise haircut that day. Thank you for the compliment on my hair! I am usually in a fight with it (I kind of regret getting bangs, lol) but most of the time I like it. I’m glad your hair is going back to normal since becoming anemic! My mom struggled with anemia and said her hair was brittle, so she’s always looking for supplements/products to help. I’ll have to recommend biotin to her!
Amen to TJ Maxx for decorations!! You’re so right about stuff flying off the shelves, too! It’s crazy, but the low prices are the best 🙂
I slept 9.5 hours last night! It was GLORIOUS! So I know exactly what you mean about the more sleep thing 🙂 Also, I’m ALWAYS on a mission to decorate more, but since Will and I are still in an apartment that we don’t own, there is much less pressure because I know we will move in a few years. But I do like the decorations in the first picture! I love teals and blues 🙂
9.5 hours of sleep sounds absolutely amazing! I’m so glad you were able to enjoy that!! I bet your apartment feels so homey, even if you know you won’t be there forever–it seems like you have a knack for making a house a home :). Yay for teals and blues! They’re so relaxing and remind me of the ocean, which I live way too far away from!
Haha! The drone in your hair! I’m so glad it came out okay. So funny!
I love succulents. They’re so hardy (important because I do not have a green thumb) and cheerful.
I was JUST thinking about hosting a coloring party. I’m checking out the link above now!
I’m so glad it came out, too! I definitely thought I’d be getting a surprise haircut that day ;).
Succulents are the best, aren’t they?! I’m sure they do much better in the desert than in Pittsburgh, but they just make me so happy!
A coloring party sounds like a fantastic idea! I am loving getting clothes that fit without a belt. It really makes me feel like and adult haha. I am also loving spending more time with my roommate. Watching TV together is a great way to unwind.
I wish we lived near each other so we could have a coloring party! Yay for clothes that fit! That’s always a good thing :). I’m glad you’re enjoying time with your roommate, too.
Getting a drone stuck in your hair—you don’t hear that happening every day! But it might be a much more common occurrence with drones popping up everywhere nowadays, haha. At least it wasn’t gum though, right 🙂 ?
Haha, seriously! Hopefully it’s not too common of an occurrence… and hopefully it never happens again to me ;). Yes, thank goodness it was gum! Though I have heard peanut butter helps to get gum out of hair. I have no shortage of PB around my house 🙂
Oh my goodness, I’m so glad the drone came out without having to cut your hair! That would’ve been terrible!
Did I ever tell you that I got an adult coloring book after reading your post about it last year? I have loved it!!
I just started coloring as well and find it such a great way to relax and be creative! If you love coffee you have to love espresso! I’m hooked on Starbucks Americano and I’m hoping to get a new espresso machine for my birthday this weekend so that I can make these drinks at home! Seriously, I’d love to meet with you at a coffee shop and talk coffee among other Pittsburgh things!
Isn’t coloring just the best?! I really, really love it. I’ll have to try espresso some time!! I hope you get a new machine for your b-day!! Happy birthday, too! And YES to meeting up for coffee to chat. I’d love that 🙂
