Our Easter, Cake Baking, and Book Writing

How was your Easter? Ours was very nice! We had church on Sunday and loved seeing Sadie and Mordecai sing with their Sunday School class for the congregation.

We kept the holiday low-key because it wouldn’t be a holiday without one of the kids getting sick, right?! 🤣

Toddler boy laying on the couch

Mordecai caught his third stomach virus of the year. I didn’t even think that was possible! Poor buddy. He recovered pretty quickly, but passed it around to most of our family.

Our little guy missed out on a family gathering, but Sadie brought home sparklers for him, and that cheered him right up!

Kids with sparklers on back porch

We had really, really nice weather right before Easter—like 80 degrees and sunny. It was a dream! Then the temperature dropped. That’s spring in Pittsburgh. If you don’t like the weather, wait a few hours. 😉

I tried to snap a picture of each kiddo before church on Sunday. They’re always moving so it’s hard!

Mordecai. We were so happy he was feeling better!

Baby girl in white dress

Koko! She got quite the goose egg on her forehead the day before I took this picture. She fell off a cement step on our back porch. Poor baby girl!

These three got up to some mischief with the cereal container!

Ten cent Euro

We went on a walk and Sadie found a 10 cent Euro on the ground! She was so interested to know how it got to Pittsburgh and has come up with all sorts of guesses.

Niva has been enjoying her walks! I took her out the other day and then later on, one of Sadie’s neighbor friends came to the door. Guess who shot right past me, ran out the open door, and went for a run around the neighborhood? Miss Niva! She actually ended up at that neighbor’s house with their dog. 🤣

Sweet sixteen cake

Jimmy’s stepsister is turning sixteen next month and yours truly was asked to make her  birthday cake! I was sent an inspiration picture and did a practice round to be sure I could take this project on.

Pink two layer rosette cake

It was a very rough draft. I learned a lot in the process for how I’ll do the actual cake next month. I’m equal parts nervous and excited! I still am shocked every time someone asks me to bake a cake for them. I always feel a bit of imposter syndrome since I didn’t go to pastry school!

What's True About You book cover by Allie Zottola

Speaking of rough drafts… my first children’s book will be published soon. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover. To say I’m excited to read this to my children would be a huge understatement! I will be sure to share when it’s officially published. 😊

Other Notes and Thoughts 📝

  • Scripture I’m loving: The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1 🙏🏻
  • Recipes I’ve been making: Best Ever Gluten Free Brownies and Four Ingredient Energy Bites. 🍫
  • I’ve been making an effort to teach Mordecai how to write his letters. He wrote the letter “C” for Jimmy the other day at dinner time and I was so proud of him! 👏🏽
  • Currently working on a family tree project with Sadie for school! We read Me and My Family Tree and are putting together a big tree on paper with drawings of everyone in our extended family. She’s having so much fun with this. 🌳
