This week has been full of moments worth jotting down—good checkups at the doctor and dentist, a school day at Starbucks, a stubborn headache, shopping with a toddler, and driving around on E. Here’s a look at life lately!
Healthy Reports 🩺
Mordecai had his three year checkup this week and it went so well. What a blessing that he is thriving, healthy, and has no health issues. I will never take that for granted!
I had a dentist checkup this week and it went well, too! I have had some bad experiences at the dentist in the past, so any time I get a clean bill of dental health I am super happy. 😊
Headaches and Homeschool 🤕
I’m not sure what is going on with my head lately, but I’ve seen an uptick in the amount of headaches I get in the past few months. I’m not sure if it’s hormonal or TMJ related but I’m definitely at the point where I need to do something.
I’m not one to jump straight to medicine—I’d prefer to go to the chiropractor and try other pain relief and treatment options first but this headache called for some good ol’ Advil. Thankfully it went away with a few pills and a big glass of water!
On the homeschool front, we are cruising along through the school year. Sadie is in a good groove with her willingness and effort with her schoolwork lately and I’m so proud of her!
Reading is going really well—we’re almost ready to move to All About Reading Level 3! It still blows my mind when we’re out somewhere and she reads something on her own. I feel like she was just a toddler and learning her letters. It’s so beautiful to see her hard work pay off.
We did school at Starbucks one day this week and it was such a great change of pace! We haven’t made it to our homeschool room at Jimmy’s work lately because we keep getting nap trapped between Mordecai and Dakota 😆
Sadie and Mordecai sipped on hot chocolate and mama enjoyed the Christmas blonde roast!
Sadie is almost finished with The Good and The Beautiful Math Level 1! We are going to probably try out All About Learning’s new math program next! She also has one page left in her current handwriting workbook, so I ordered her this one to work through next because it includes drawing!
I always try to acknowledge when things are going well and right now I am taking a moment to do just that. I’m so thankful for this journey!
Pre-Thanksgiving Family Fun Night 🦃
Can you believe Thanksgiving is in just a few days? We’ll be celebrating at my mom and dad’s house this year. I always try to make a pre-Thanksgiving dinner for our little family about a week before the real deal and that’s just what we did this week!
We made it a family fun night by cooking the special meal—turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, apple pie, etc., and decorating the table with a table cloth and special paper plates and napkins. I think Dakota enjoyed the meal the most. She was a big fan of cranberry sauce!
I also wrapped a gingerbread house for Sadie and Mordecai to open and they were so excited! It was sitting on our kitchen windowsill all day and the kids had fun guessing what it was. Around lunchtime, Mordecai and I had this conversation that cracked me up:
Mordecai: What’s that? (pointing at the gift)
Me: A special gift for after dinner!
Mordecai: Is it a forklift?
Me: No, you’ll find out after dinner!
Mordecai: I’m ready for dinner.
The whole experience was a big hit. Mordecai hasn’t stopped asking to make another gingerbread house since then!
Living Life on the Edge ⛽️
So, I’m curious: do you let your car’s gas tank get to empty or do you refill it sooner? I think I hit a new record: I had 11 miles until the tank was empty.
I’m livin’ life on the edge over here. 😆
Daily Life 🤗
Daily life has looked like the usual—mopping the floors constantly, library visits, laundry, and playtime.
We brought our usual chaos to the library! Sadie was excited because I ordered in another drawing book. She got right to work.
I peeped Sadie getting Dakota out of her crib on the baby monitor one morning. She is too sweet with her!
I got some snuggles with little miss serious.
Want to see Sadie in the same outfit as a baby? Check out this post!
The girls got up at the same time on Sunday so Jimmy got them out of their beds together!
Sadie got to have a play date with a friend she first met at swim lessons two summers back. I love that they’ve continued getting together ever since!
Aaaand we put up our Christmas tree! The kids, especially Mordecai, were thrilled to hang the ornaments. We quickly learned to put the ornaments up high due to a certain little girl grabbing them 😉
The kids have been hard at work as they practice for our church’s Christmas Eve nativity play! Sadie was excited to try on her angel costume. 👼
Other Notes and Thoughts 📝
- Sadie has been loving Wellie Wishers and Unicornia books and Mordecai has enjoyed The Wheels on the Dump Truck before his naps.📚
- Scripture I’m loving: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:4-5 🤍
- A friend from church knows a girl around my age who’s going through chemotherapy for breast cancer. She mentioned that granola is one of the few foods that doesn’t make her nauseous during her treatments, so I made her a batch of maple apple and cinnamon raisin granola! 👩🏼🍳
- I was looking at pictures from when Dakota was a few months old and I feel like her eyelid hemangioma now seems a little lighter?! 🙌🏼
- The kids are finally getting in a normal sleep groove post Daylight Savings Time. Whew! 🛌
- My current cereal obsessions: Blueberry Chex, Peanut Butter Puffins, and Peanut Butter Chex. I also love these so much that I (try to) hide them from my kids 🫣
- Someone please tell me how Christmas is in 32 days. I can’t wait!! This time of year is pure joy with little kids 🤗
That’s a wrap for this post! It’s Sunday night as I type this up. This week will be a busy one: Dakota has her nine month check up, we will be attending a funeral, we’re hanging out with Jimmy’s cousin who is visiting from NY, celebrating Thanksgiving, and having Mordecai’s birthday party!

Everything is so sweet! You’re such a good writer!
Love You!

Aww, thank you! I love you!
