Battery Drain and Another Power Outage

Some days I have the energy to keep up with the kids and some days, I feel like my battery is slowly draining. Monday was one of those battery-drain days, but we got everything done that we needed to get done for the day, so that was a win!

School lessons were completed on mom’s bed with a smiley baby.

We are pushing through the end of the school year! We’re currently on day 153 of 180. Woo hoo! After doing school for the day, we went outside and played with stomp rockets. They’re so much fun!

This was the only picture we had of playing with stomp rockets hahah. Sadie thought it was so funny when I put them on my fingers. There’s a better picture of what they look like in this post.

When Mordecai took his nap that afternoon, I laid on my bed to feed Dakota and rest. Sadie was so worried because I never lay down in the day, lol! I see the hematologist in a couple of weeks, but I honestly feel like my iron levels are good for now. Just had a tired day! We all have ’em 🙃

Tuesday was kind of a weird day. Well, it started great because we spent time with my mom and the weather was nice and warm! Maybe even hot by some standards–a high temperature around 80 degrees!

I went to physical therapy (for diastasis recti) in the afternoon and then the sky got dark. We kept getting weather alerts for a tornado and it was definitely stormy. It got really windy (like 80 mph windy) and rainy and then the power went out again around 5:15 pm.

Again, we tried to make the best of it! I heated up dinner on our grill (in the rain, lol) and then Sadie had computer coding class. Jimmy brought Sadie to her class and my mom and I took Mordecai and Dakota to a book store that had power so we could escape our dark house.

It ended up that everyone was in the mood for a treat! Jimmy sent us a photo of them out for ice cream just as Mordecai was eating a cookie at the book store 😂

We drove home (and saw a collapsed building, a telephone pole on a car, and debris everywhere) and all met back at our dark house. It was light outside, though, so we walked up and down our street checking in with our neighbors.

We definitely stayed up way too late, but it was fun having a strong sense of community with everyone checking on each other and hanging out in the street. One neighbor even lit off bottle rockets for something fun to do 😂

We eventually headed home and brushed our teeth by the light of book lights. Having a reading habit comes in handy 😬

We woke up the next morning and the power was restored! 12 hours without power is nothing compared to my poor parents and brother. My brother had a tree fall on his roof (thankfully everyone is okay and safe!) and my parents still don’t have power over 48 hours later and have no timeline of when it will be restored 😔

The day after the outage was weird! We were collecting ourselves, cleaning, thanking God for electricity, and the kids were on a weird sleep schedule. Jimmy’s work still doesn’t have power, but they’re still working somehow!

The girls snuggled in bed and it reminded me of Sadie snuggling baby Mordecai (below) not too long ago!

The crazy storms from the previous night were over and it was gloriously sunny! We did school outside. Sometimes we do school while Mordecai naps and sometimes he hangs out with us. He picks up on a lot when he’s with us. The other day, he surprised us by counting to 12?!

Mordecai has still been using and loving his “school” workbook, too! We pull it out a couple of times a week and do a few pages. Sadie is currently using All About Reading for learning to read, All About Spelling for learning to spell, Apologia for math, and LIFEPAC by Alpha Omega for Bible.

Dakota napped peacefully on our bed! She goes to Children’s Hospital next week for her first appointment to check on her hemangioma. Praying we can have minimal intervention!

Aaaand on Wednesday night into Thursday, Sadie and Dakota came down with the coughing/sickness that Mordecai had over the weekend. Ugh. Poor girls. We laid low, did school, and then Sader Tot and I watercolored together outside while Dakota and Mordecai napped. Were 800 things on my to-do list tugging at me? Yes… but Sadie (and mom!) needed that fun time together!

Sadie said she wanted to paint a rainy picture of the forest together. I asked if she wanted the sky blue and she was like “No, like a dark gray!” so I painted some gray and she goes “That’s the vibe I was going for” 😂

That brings me to now, Thursday night! I’m outside (about to start some real estate work!) with the laptop while the kids play and Jimmy cleans our hot tub. I’m a little nervous because we have more storms rolling in this evening and I am dreading the possibility of another power outage. Praying everyone can keep their electricity and that my mom and dad can get theirs back on ASAP! 🙏🏻
