A Day in the Life: Our Monday

I thought it would be fun to write a day in the life post (again!). I think in the spring when we have a new newborn, I will look back at these posts and think about how different life is/was. Every new stage of parenting is so special and something I’m always trying to find joy in and cherish. Here’s what my day with a six-year-old, two-year-old, and 20-some week fetus was like on Monday this week!

Jimmy’s alarm clock goes off at 5:00 am each morning. I never hear it, but I feel him get out of bed and I eventually get up once I get my bearings. We both sit in silence (ahh, silence!!) on our couches, drink coffee, and read our Bibles. Right now, I’m also working through Gospel Mom and the Gospel Mom Workbook.

Before I know it, it’s time for Jimmy to head off to work. We quickly unload the dishwasher together as he tells me his plans for the workday. I work on getting Sadie’s breakfast prepped. She’s been loving a mug of hot cocoa and a yogurt each morning.

She stumbles out of her room around 7:00 am and lays by our living room air vent to warm up. We get her dressed and set up with breakfast. Soon enough, Mordecai is up, too. I make sure to have hot cocoa ready for him too and he chugs it 😂

I pack up Sadie’s school books, get Mordecai dressed, and then we drive to Jimmy’s work to do Sadie’s school in the homeschool room. First, we stop for egg bites at Starbucks. Mordecai calls them “agg bites” and it’s so cute.

Sadie’s reading curriculum has her doing a lot of practicing, and the author of the workbook encourages ways to make it fun and boy do we have fun with it! On this day, I pulled out a deck of kids yoga cards that I’ve had since Sadie was around Mordecai’s age.

I wrote her practice words (she’s learning compound words at the moment) on a whiteboard and for every two words she read correctly, she picked a yoga card and ran to the play mat to practice the pose. It’s great for keeping her engaged and getting her wiggles out. She has a lot of wiggles!

Of course, Mordecai joined in on the fun! The baby did some yoga in my belly as soon as I sat down, too, lol. I don’t get to sit too often, and as soon as I do she starts moving. I love feeling it. When my hand is on my belly, the kids usually run over and kiss it. It’s the sweetest.

Sadie asked if she could stay at Jimmy’s work for the rest of the day once we were done with school, so she helped run the robot machine to cut steel beams with Jimmy’s sister. It’s such a blessing for Jimmy to have a family business and for us to be able to hang out there!

Mordecai and I headed home and missed our favorite girl! We had lunch, I laid him down for a nap, and then pretty much sprinted to the kitchen to get started on Etsy orders. I was slightly buried under orders and so glad I had a chunk of time to myself to get to work.

The first order of business was to make six half-pound bags of granola. The customers chose flavors like cinnamon raisin, cranberry orange, chocolate espresso, cherry almond, and banana bread.

I got the granola orders baked and packed and was set to move on to chocolate covered Oreos, but Mordecai woke up from his nap! I was actually in need of chocolate anyways, so we ran to the store together. He said hi and waved to everyone we came in contact with. Too cute!

When we got home, Sadie and Jimmy were there and the kids were reunited! Mordecai had asked “Where sissy is?” about 700 times that afternoon.

We ate dinner and I dove right into Oreo land! I had to make three dozen happy birthday chocolate covered Oreos and four dozen Christmas-themed chocolate covered Oreos.

I wish I could say I finished all the orders, but bedtime crept up on me and my lower back was aching. The rest had to wait until the next day!

Jimmy laid Mordecai down for bed then relaxed in our hot tub (oh how I miss our hot tub while pregnant!). Sadie and I read in our bed for a bit. We just started a kid’s book in the Baby-Sitters series and I just started reading Ina Garten’s memoir and am liking it a lot so far! Once we got some reading in, we crashed.

It was a good day! A pretty normal one for us. I’m loving these days with my people and work I really enjoy 🤍

  1. wow! That’s a busy day for sure! I’m so truly happy you’re able to be with your children each day, and run a lucrative Etsy business from your home!! Such a blessing.
Sadie helping at the shop is adorable, and the kids have some major yoga moves 😂
