Jimmy and I both took Friday off of work and spent the day together. It was a special little day date and I loved every second of it!
We woke up sometime after 6 am and had a nice, slow morning. We drank coffee, ate breakfast, I read my Bible and journaled, and Jimmy played video games. I also prepped some things for a special dinner I had planned for us.
Around noon, we headed out for lunch. We had a gift card to Red Lobster, so we enjoyed some delicious rainbow trout and steak.
After polishing off lunch, we decided to try and finish up some Christmas shopping.
We wandered around a few stores, including HomeGoods, where Jimmy found this… platter? Decoration? Whatever it was, he was fascinated by it and wanted me to take a picture of him holding it.
We browsed around a toy store that had trains (Jimmy’s favorite!) and went to a pet store with plenty of puppies (my favorite!). Jimmy even indulged me and let me hold a Bernese Mountain Dog. Berners are one of my most favorite dog breeds 🙂
After we had our fill of trains and puppies, we were cold (the average temperature for the day was 12°F) and hungry, so we headed home and had a pizza party!
I had started the dough early in the morning and we each made our own personal pizza–mine topped with tomatoes and onions and Jimmy’s with pepperoni–and then I started a pet sitting job that lasted until Sunday.
We ended the evening watching Gold Rush and snuggling. It was a wonderful day together, and reminded me of how important (and enjoyable) it is to date my husband!
I love going on dates with Clay :). We do a lunch date every weekend and sometimes go to stores (you know you’re an adult when your dates become trips to Costco and out for dinner). I’m glad you guys had a great time and hooray for a day off work to just spend together!
I have always loved that you and Clay go on dates a lot! I think it’s just so good for a relationship! You’re so right about going out for dinner and then hitting up the store, haha. Real life!
Adult life: Your dates are to Costco, Lowe’s, etc… hahaha.
Aww what a fun day! I love that wood platter, I want to eat cookies off of it.
Mmm, now I want a cookie!! Jimmy was obsessed with that platter, haha. I should have bought it for him for Christmas but I don’t think he’d actually use it LOL.
You two are stinking adorable, Allie!!!! As are those pups. Oh man- too stinking cute!!!! And now I’m craving red Lobster—- their rolls– I can’t stop myself from eating like five of them! Have a great week, darlin’!
Aww, thank you Mackenzie! You made my day! And all the dogs. Ahhh. I always just want to take them home with me!
Red Lobster’s cheddar bay biscuits are so, so good!! Hope you have a great week, too!
That’s so cute that you guys took the day off to spend the day together. Those days are the best and it helps that its a Friday 😉 Lunch date and home goods are totally my idea of a day well spent! I can’t remember the last time I went to a Red Lobster, used to be my favorite but the closest on to me closed down so I haven’t been to one since, completely heart breaking! Glad you guys enjoyed it though- you guys are such a sweet couple!!
xo, JJ
Yes, it was such a special little treat of a day together! And the fact that it was Friday just made it that much better!
I love Jimmy’s beard. Especially with the paddle 🙂
Hahaha me too! He’s a character and always has me laughing!
I think it’s soooo important to go on dates like that! Nate and I don’t do it quite as often now that we have a toddler, but we definitely make time for date afternoons or dinners when we can. 🙂 It’s SO important! (People say that marriage takes work, but I also like to say that it takes fun too. 🙂 You have to make time for memories and simple moments, just like you did when you were dating).
I’m so glad you had such a lovely day!
Yes, I couldn’t agree more! I know we need to do dates more, especially before any kids come along, haha. I love that you say marriage takes fun! I’m going to remember that 🙂
Fun day date! Isn’t there something so special about taking off work for a day date? It sounds like you guys had a perfect day together.
Yes, it was so special! I was looking forward to it all week!
Aww, I love that you guys took Friday off because we did too (since it was Christopher’s birthday). I love that we were both having fun date days at the same time. 🙂
And yes, that’s totally a platter! A friend of mine has one and she sets it down the middle of her table and serves all kinds of different things on it. Like she does taco night and puts all the different ingredients directly on the platter (so like a little pile of cheese, a pile of cut tomatoes, a pile of olives, etc). It looks super cool, but it’s not really my thing as far as clean up goes, haha!
And look at that puppy! SO CUTE! Those paws are precious! 🙂
Aww, I’m so happy to think you and Christopher were having a fun day date at the same time! I hope his birthday was great! I have a feeling you made it special for him 🙂
I’m glad you knew it was a platter! I loved your friends idea so much that when I made tacos tonight I put all the different ingredients on a cutting board! It let me be lazy and not have to pull out a million little serving bowls, haha. Plus it looked so pretty!
Sounds like a lovely date! Oh and the dogs…my heart melts ❤
Oh it was so lovely! The dogs. Ahhh. I just want to take them all home!
