It felt like autumn officially hit Pittsburgh this past weekend. The temperature ranged from the low 40s to the mid-60s. There was sunshine, wind, and rain. Typical fall weather for the ‘Burgh.
I had quite the social weekend! It was delightful to get out and be with people I adore, but man am I tired. Classic introvert right here.
Friday started off with an early morning baking session. I made pumpkin spice gingersnaps, and then headed off to work. Jimmy and I battled rush hour traffic to get to the other side of Pittsburgh in the evening. I had an Origami Owl party to attend and I brought the cookies along.
Jimmy and I drive through Pittsburgh traffic constantly, and I’ve learned to bring reading material (yes, I am one of those people who can read in the car, haha), have long talks with Jimmy, listen to music, or nap. I take my best naps in Jimmy’s truck!
The Origami Owl party was a blast, and I signed up to host one at my house next month. I’m super excited 🙂
On Saturday, Jimmy, Hannah, Josh (Han’s fiancé), and I all piled into Jimmy’s truck and drove to West Virginia to visit Cabela’s, which is a big hunting and fishing store I’ve blogged about many times.
After grabbing lunch and exploring Cabela’s, we headed to a nearby bookstore. Hannah and I spent at least half an hour in the Christian book aisle because she wanted to buy a journaling Bible.
I had to laugh when we were still in the aisle and my phone rang with a text message. Jimmy had taken a picture of Hannah and I sitting in the aisle and sent it to me. We were so immersed in our search that we didn’t even notice he had taken a picture.
After finishing up at the bookstore, we went to Target! Hannah thought it would be fun if Josh and Jimmy picked out outfits for us to try on. I actually loved what Jimmy picked out so much that I bought it to wear for our Christmas pictures next month. Go Jimmy!
Another item I picked up at Target? Pumpkin Spice Cheerios.
They’re great! I’ve had them plain and in yogurt a few times now and have really enjoyed them.
Sunday was spent at church and working around the house. When Jimmy and I came home from the morning service, Malcolm and Lola greeted us as usual. When I bent down to unzip my boots, Malcolm hopped on my back. As I type this post Lola is laying on my legs. Am I weird for loving when our pets smother me?!
It was a good weekend indeed!
This past weekend I took a small trip to look at apartments. I also grocery shopped and ate at my favorite cafe. It was very fun 🙂
Oh la la! Apartment searching sounds exciting! I hope it went well for you, Ellie. Yay for grocery shopping and eating at your favorite cafe! Sounds like a great weekend to me 🙂
Did your sister find a good journal Bible? I told Nate that I want a new Bible for Christmas, because the one I have right now has very little room for underlining / taking notes. 🙂
Oh, and what recipe did you use for the pumpkin spice gingersnaps? Do you mind sharing? I think I’d LOVE those!!
She didn’t! She’s super picky about it, though, so that’s probably why. It can’t have any lines in the margins and the pages have to be white. For some reason, that’s tough to find! I totally told Jimmy I am needing a new Bible (or to have mine re-bound because it’s falling apart). I hope Nate finds you a great one for Christmas!
I used a classic gingersnap recipe and added pumpkin spice! I can post the recipe soon 🙂
It looks like you guys had a fun trip to the Cabela’s store. I think we have one of those here or something similar but I’ve never been… we don’t hunt or fish or anything but it seems like a neat place to just hang out and browse. Those cookies you baked looked really delicious as well!
We really did! We don’t hunt or fish much, but definitely enjoy going to Cabela’s just to browse and check it out because it’s such a neat store! Also, I think I might post the cookie recipe soon!
Baahahaaaa love that last photo. I’m not a fan of hunting, but there is something about Cabela’s that I love. It’s so odd because it’s totally against my views hahaha. It’s fun in there though. Those cookies look great.
How funny that you love Cabela’s! I think that’s awesome 🙂
And yeah, the last photo was fun! I’m hitting crazy cat lady status at this point 😉
I’ve had the pumpkin spice Life cereal and the pumpkin spice Puffins cereal and they are both really good. Glad to hear that the pumpkin spice Cheerios are good too! 🙂
How cute are you two sitting in that aisle?! So funny that Jimmy managed to sneak up on you to take that photo AND send it to you while you were still there!
And Malcolm on your back is adorable! I totally understand loving when your pets smother you. 🙂
Ohh, I need to try those cereals! I’ll try pretty much anything that is pumpkin-flavored!
I had a feeling you’d understand the love of pets smothering their owners 😉
I don’t know where to start. I like the idea of having the husband pick out an outfit to try on and I LOVE that Jimmy chose one you loved.
That photo of you and Malcolm (and part of Lola) is so cute. Rue is sitting on my lap now and she thinks Malcolm is dreamy.
Those cookies look delicious.
I have an Origami Owl necklace and really like it! I really like the story behind the start of the company too. A young, ambitious, female entrepreneur – what’s not to like!?
You should have Kevin pick out an outfit for you some time! I even have Jimmy do it with things I already own. It’s neat to see what he likes me to wear. I bet Kevin has good taste in fashion!
Aww, Rue laying on your lap!! Love it!!
Isn’t the story behind Origami Owl amazing?! The jewelry is super cute, so it’s a win-win in my book 🙂
I love having cereal in yogurt—the cereal definitely keeps its crunch a lot longer than when in milk! And Malcom just hopped on your back? How adorable! My cat gets so angry when we pick her up…unless she wants to be picked up and held of course 😛
So true about cereal in yogurt vs. cereal in milk! Love it.
Yes, Malcolm jumped right on up! I know what you mean about cats being finicky about when they’re held! Malcolm has definitely bit me a few times when I picked him up when he didn’t want to be, haha.
