Running plans

Well hello hello and welcome to WEDNESDAY! —-> I just typed that and it sounded so overly perky and annoying that I decided to keep it as my intro haha. Sorry 😉 [I do talk like that in real life occasionally-eek]

I feel as if I haven’t talked much about running on my blog lately and I guess it was for a reason. I didn’t really have any plans for completing a race. I have still been running (20-35 mile weeks) and I’ve been trying to work out a racing schedule. Yeah, it’s been fun. I was looking into running a 20 mile race in February, an 30k in March, various 5k’s/10k’s in April and a marathon in June.

Mostly, I want to run a marathon, so that is what i’m going to focus on! DUH. If I follow a 18 week training plan, that mean’s i’ll start training for the June 2nd marathon in the last week of January. I want to follow the training plan as closely as possible and some of the winter races i’m looking into just don’t match up with the plan/milage. You win some, you lose some (literally…).

The toughest part about running in January-June is the crazy Pittsburgh winter/spring weather for long runs!

So it looks like I am going to be running a half in March (like I did last year.)I’ll also be running a lot of 5k’s/10k’s in April and a marathon in June. That is the plan, if I don’t get injured!

As my road racing season gets closer I will be posting a more exact schedule of all the races i’ll be doing. For now I will leave you with my 2011 year end report from Daily Mile.

How do you deal with the inclement weather for long runs?!

  1. I deal with inclement weather by using the treadmill. But honestly, living in SC we can pretty much run year-round. It gets tough in the summer though and you have to go early-morning. I couldn’t imagine a June marathon here. Heck, we don’t really have any races after about mid-May because the humidity gets unbearable.

Good luck with your training goals… the races you did pick leading up to your marathon sound great, they would get you in good shape and knowing how you’ll do in the marathon. I just run whatever around here because we don’t have that many lol. But it’s always fun to plan out what you’re going to do so you know what weekends you’re racing, miles you’re running, etc.

  2. I trained for my half marathon during the summer which meant early morning. I think it worked out really well for me, I’m better in the heat than the cold 🙂 I like to get my sweaty on!
Will you do any training on the treadmill?

  3. WOW! So much running! I tried to keep going through the blah weather, but have definitely failed at that somewhat. It was 50 and not rainy a few days ago and I actually did a 3.5 mile run outside, it felt so good but definitely made me even more impatient for spring…

  4. I can’t wait to hear more about your training and races! I am planning on starting some marathon training after I graduate from school. I love running up here in PA and I’m going to miss it when I go back down to FL. I used to take the weather up here for granted until I started spending most of the year in FL. I’ve actually enjoyed bundling up for my runs this past month! During spring and summer it’s basically morning run or die. During the summer I would have to be finishing my run by 7-7:15 or else the combo of sun and humidity would do me in.

  5. Winter weather = excuse to buy cute warm running gear!

Winter usually means more running on shoveled sidewalks, or even in neighborhoods that don’t get much traffic.

Good luck starting on your training!! Where is the one in June? Pittsburg?

  6. That’s a lot of miles, my friend. Way to go!

What Half are you running? A bunch of bloggers are running the Publix Half in ATL in March. I’m going to the the Nashville Rock and Roll Half in April!

    1. I never realized how many miles it was until the report came out, it was kinda cool!

I’m running “Just A Short Run” in March.. it is about 15-20 minutes outside of downtown Pittsburgh. How exciting about that Nashville R&R! I hear those events are amazing and a lot of fun + high energy! Woot woot!

  7. Wow that is awesome! I hope you start talking about running more again and I cannot wait to see how you do in your races! Marathon-you are my inspiration. You already have been doing the long runs needed I think you’d be ready rather soon. 🙂

  8. I was thinking of doing the feb. 25th race not sure about 10, 15, or 20 miles yet because I haven’t been running much lately. Then just a short run half marathon or 30k. Then pittsburgh half marathon thebeginning of may. Hen I would over the june ultra but we’ll see.

    1. Awesome, I love hearing your goals! Are you still running with a club at all? Let me know what races you sign up for so we can have a meet up (if you want) if we do the same race. 🙂
