Workouts and training shoes

Yesterday I ordered my training shoe for cross country! My coach sent out the 2011 Fall Puma catalog and let each of us pick what ever shoe we wanted! Here is my choice:

I’m pretty nervous about ordering a brand I have never ran in (Does anyone in the blog world use Puma’s as running shoes..? I usually wear Saucony or New Balance) Also I have never tried these shoes on and I know Puma’s sizes run a bit different soo we’ll see how that all goes hahaha.

*******

Another cross country note- I asked you all if you wanted to see the weekly training schedule that gets emailed to all of the runners that i’m totally not following at the moment haha. Nobody said no so I decided to post it. I hope this isn’t illegal in the college cross country world… lol.

So there you have it. That is what i’m supposed to be doing. If you follow me on Daily Mile you know very well that I’m not running every day and not even those amounts of miles. That schedule is a bit tough and I prefer not to run (or even exercise) 7 days a week. I know when I go to training camp and start cross country for real i’ll have to exercise 7 days a week ...poop. I love my rest day(s).

How many days a week do you exercise?

What do you think of Puma running shoes?

  1. Whoa that’s a LOT of running. Glad I don’t do cross country. How do you have time to recover? I guess your coach knows best though. I hope the new shoes work out for you! Haha you know where my faith lies (barefoot/minimalist!) but I hope they are what’s right for you! 🙂

  2. If your school is running in the Puma shoes.. then they must be okay, right?! The girls on the team must wear them.. and continue to wear them! I personally have no experience with them, though!

Yikes.. no rest days?! That can’t be good.. with your light day being 6 miles?! You totally should not be worrying about doing this with your knee… easy does it!

  3. I can’t believe you don’t have a recovery day. Is he crazy? Don’t you need a recovery day? Don’t elite marathoners recover or at least cross train/weight train? I know running 7 days a week every week would set me up for injury/burn out.

  4. Those shoes are wicked cool! And holy cow you’re schedule for running is intense, you’re a beast. I would totally die with running 7 days a week! Now, I workout about 4-5 times a week and soak up my rest days like nobody’s business haha 🙂

  5. I ran in Pumas when I first started running. It was interesting. I still have a pair that I run in sometimes, and they worked pretty well until my stride changed a little bit from other reasons. Now they don’t work for me and are backups.

  6. That is an intense schedule! I prefer to run every other day and I only do 4-6 miles… but I’m not in near the shape you guys are in! It is definitely hard on your body to run every day like that.

What is the theory behind splitting the Friday run? I did that on Sunday just to get more miles in and liked it!

  7. Oh man, I don’t think I could follow through with that plan! You need a rest day in there! I usually take either Friday or Sunday off…kinda just depends on my plans for those days.

Best of luck on your training! Praying for lots of stamina!

  8. Those shoes are ca-yoooot! I’d feel pretty uncomfortable buying a pair of new shoes blind though too. I’ve never worn puma’s before, hopefully they fit right!

I’m glad you posted that training schedule because I like to get a glimpse of what college cross country might be like. It looks like something I definitely could handle if I wasn’t injured! The idea of a tempo run seems to foreign right now.. but i kind of miss it? haha.

  9. Phew very intense schedule! I run cross country at school but don’t follow the training to a “t.” That amount of running simply does not work for me, it completely wears me out and makes me quite slow. I need to cross train too!
Never have tried Pumas, but I hope they work for you!

  10. I workout seven days a week. It’s something that I can handle though. It’s not like every workout I do is tough so it’s fine. And running seven days a week is fine. A lot of people think it isn’t, but as long as you have three easy runs built in, you’re fine.

  11. I usually exercise 5-7 days a week, depending on the week. I’ve never worn any kind of Puma shoe, so sorry I can’t be of any help there!

  12. In all honesty, I think that is seriously TOO MUCH running. Even the most elite runners/athletes take and NEED rest days. Our bodies can only handle so much–please take care of your body!!

    Love those shoes 😀

    1. Like I said in the post (not sure if you actually read it?), I’m not currently running that much. I also stated that I love my rest days. I take great care of my body. Thanks for the care though, I agree with you.

      1. Hey girl! yeah, i read it 🙂 please know that i wasn’t trying to be rude at alllll–just that i think your schedule is INTENSE 🙂 i know you take fantastic care of your body–no worries! im sorry if i came off as defensive! i didn’t mean it that way 🙂

  13. those shoes are so cute!!! holy crap girl thats a ton of running. be careful!! you are already really tiny, i dont want you damaging your body! there really isnt a need to run THAT much, but that is totally my opinion! just dont want you to get bondaged to it 🙂

    1. Thanks for the kind and caring words Katie 🙂

Idk if you noticed but this is the running plan prescribed by my coach for cross country, I also said I’m not following it haha. I showed it on my blog for the purpose of saying how crazy it is for me to do.

  14. I ran D2 college xc and I think your schedule is fine. I too had a hard time adjusting to no rest day. But the hardest part was running so many more miles. But you will get used to it and love it!! Our Fri was considered a rest day cause we only jogged the race course for our Sat race. I’m praying you get better soon. It’s no fun being injured. But, you have plenty of time to get in race shape. I love the shoes. Never ran in that brand. You will have to tell us what you think. 🙂
