I will admit that I have been keeping a little secret. Kind of.
I MIGHT be running an ultra marathon. Next month. I may or may not have known this for about a month or so. Shall I explain?
An older man who goes to my church ran on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail in PA with his brother for years when he was in his ‘prime’. They decided to make their running route into a race in the 1980’s. A 77 mile race. The race can be split into a relay, ran individually, or one can complete a 50k.
Jim’s Uncle and I do long runs together whenever we can. We both decided to check out the trail on Saturday morning to see if we wanted to run the 50k next month (we were going to do the relay but can’t find anyone as crazy as us to do it too….). We planned to run from mile 1 to mile 19.
We ended up running 24 miles. It was an accident. We got a little lost! But it ended up being fun.
Thankfully I had some FUEL!
I ended up drinking 2 bottles of water, a bottle of blue Gatorade, 2 energy gels, a banana, sunflower seeds, and a lemon poppy seed muffin. Nummy 🙂
I was a little bit afraid because my long run last week was only 11 miles. 11 miles to 24 miles is a BIT of a jump. So I will be on the look out for ANY pain.. plus I will be taking the next few days off to recoup!
Just thought I’d let everyone in on the possibility of a 50k (30 miles) race next month..
Should I do it?!
WOW 24 miles. That’s amazing! Good luck training (:
Do it! I would totally join you if I could.
Come to PA ! Run with me 🙂
DO IT! I’m so jealous. I would def come to PA to do it if I could. An Ultra is one of my future goal races.
Getting lost is always fun glad you had lots of fuel! and I hope you don’t have any pain with that little jump in millage 😉 good job tho on 24 miles!
You are a crazy runner! I think you should totally run it! If you can go 24 miles, what’s 6 more?! 😀
That is a good mind set 🙂
I’m speechless. You are like a hero to me. Hahaha!
I’m blushing!
girl you are a beast!!! haha get ittttt!
Wooww! That is phenomenal to me. I’ve only ever run 6 miles all at once and even that is a challenge to run the whole thing. I feel patheic, lol! You should totally do it! =D I wish I was an awesome runner like you 😉
Wow, you’re a great runner! I definitely couldn’t do it (yet), but I think you should push yourself… as long as you’re not feeling pain or anything. 🙂 You’re definitely inspiring!
Aww, thank you 🙂
Wow.. that is amazing your ran that far.. by accident. I say go for the race.. you can totally dominate it!
Trails are much easier on the body. Although, when you get tired on trails, you tend to trip over rock, roots and your own feet. Also, you walk a lot in ultras. I wanted to do the laurel highlands but need to wait until my baby eats some solid food because it would be hard to coordinate where I will be when in order to feed him.
Two of you can’t do the relay together? It would be nice to do with jim’s uncle…
Or you an do it. You can definitely finish its more of how much recovery time do you have afterward?
I would say monitor for the next week to see if you have any strange injuries or anything and if not go for it. They would be showing up by Wednesday or thursday, stiff hips, plantar ect…
Thank you Doctor Hollie 🙂 I will make sure to talk to you if I feel anything strange… I think you are the injury expert!
Wow! This may be the only time I have EVER seen someone say they accidentally ran an extra FIVE MILES! That is awesome! If you feel up for it then I say go for it!
You are CRAZY! .. but I vote DO IT!
Go for it! You can do anything you put your mind to! 😀
An Ultra?! THAT is impressive, my friend. I can’t wait to read all about it.
I’ve been toying with the idea of a marathon… the most I’ve ever run is 14 miles though. 24 on accident is a rockstar move!
You should do it only if you dont hurt yourself, its a lot of strain to put on your body without crazy training. but yes you should try 🙂
That’s awesome! Though I have to ask (I’m running illiterate) what is an ultra marathon?
An ultra marathon is any race distance longer than a marathon .. so basically anything over 26.2 miles 🙂
You’re a running beast! You should totally go for it!! 😀
If there’s anything I’ve learned in the past 9 days, it’s that you can do whatever you set your mind to. It’s important to be cautious and prep as best as possible, but I totally think that if this run means something to you, you should go for it!! Can’t wait to hear more about it!

“Only”11 miles…… I can only “walk” 6 miles for 1 1/2 hour. Definitely not running as I get stomachache. You are already doing great! Good luck! 😉
