Like Door Dash, Smash Cakes for Twins, and I Don’t Want to Be Right

I was doing school with Sadie the other day and she was learning how to read words with “sh” in them. One of the practice words was “dash.” She read it and said “Dash! Like Door Dash!” and I was cracking up. I think I was a little too hooked on Door Dash during the worst of my morning sickness 🙈

Thank you to everyone for your kind words on my two most recent posts. I was nervous to blog about our homeschooling journey because in “real life” we actually face a lot of criticism for this choice! Mostly around people thinking Sadie won’t get enough socialization (which cracks me up because she is the most social person I know and gets plenty!).

I was also nervous to post my first pregnancy diary post because it was so raw and just all. over. the. place. and literally my exact thoughts the day we found out we’re expecting baby #3! I’m glad both posts were well received, because they were a little more deep than my usual randomness and came straight from my heart! Thanks, guys 🥹

Moving onto my usual randomness now… haha. My friend gave birth to twin girls last August and what a journey it has been for her! The girls spent a lot of time in the NICU at the beginning of their life, but they are doing wonderful now!! When she asked me to make smash cakes for their birthday party, I was honored. The theme was Minnie Mouse.

The cakes reminded me of when I made Minne Mouse cupcakes for Sadie’s third birthday party. Let’s not talk about how she’s turning six next month 🥺

The twins’ birthday must have also marked the one year anniversary of starting to donate breastmilk. I initially began pumping for them, and then had leftover to donate to the Mid-Atlantic Mother’s Milk Bank. Imagine my surprise when the milk bank emailed me a little thank you certificate for donating 190 ounces! Mordecai deserves the credit for sharing all his milk. Him not taking a bottle ended up being a good thing 😉

Moving on from all of that to pumpkin season. What are your thoughts on pumpkin spice Cheerios?

Pumpkin Spice Cheerios

If pumpkin spice Cheerios are wrong… I don’t want to be right! I picked up a box at Target the other day and they have been great. Mordecai even snacked on them in the cart and was a fan.

Let’s see, what else has been going on lately? Sadie took a kids cooking class at our library! I brought Mordecai with us and he and I hung out in the library while she was in another room and he called out “sissy?” the whole time and missed her so much! Every time they’re apart from each other and are reunited, whether it’s for ten minutes or an hour, they’re both so happy to see each other again. It’s the sweetest.

Sadie has also been into scrapbooking lately, which is so much fun for both of us to do together! She just loves picking pictures and then trying to figure out stickers and background paper that will go along with it. She even had us take a family picture just for her scrapbook.

We went to an outdoor concert on our favorite trail and had a fun night of games, music, and ice cream!

I keep catching the kids playing on the floor together and it’s too cute. We don’t have much room in our house for a kid table or a play room, so they make their own play space right on the kitchen floor!

I think that’s about it for life around here lately. I can’t believe we’re nearing the end of August!

What have you been up to lately?

Thoughts on pumpkin spice?

  1. I’m the most pro-American non-American you’ll ever meet, but I simply don’t understand the appeal of pumpkin spice as a flavour. Clearly, like Vegemite, you have to be born to it!

  2. I love pumpkin spice flavored anything!
The twins’ smash cakes look(ed) so adorable!! I’m sure they both enjoyed them!! I remember so well how you helped them so much during their Nicu stay. You’re an amazing young lady and giving friend!

    love
