June Family Night: Backyard Camping

Another family night is in the books! This month’s activity was camping in our back yard.

Mom and daughter camping

We’ve been camping at a campground when Sadie was a toddler and I was not super keen on doing it again with a baby in the mix, so we decided to have the best of both worlds and recreated the camping experience in our backyard!

We made it a surprise for Sadie and talked it up all week. We told her we were doing something special and she was so excited!

Jimmy came home home from work on Friday and I took the kids out of the house so he could set up our tent. We had Sadie’s sleeping bag all ready and I bought supplies for s’mores and mountain pies for dinner.

When Sadie saw the tent all set up she was over the moon with happiness! She checked it out and then ran into the house to get stuffed animals to sleep with. She kept asking when it was time to go to bed… the first time she’s ever done that 😂

We lit a fire in our fire pit, made mountain pies and s’mores over the fire and relaxed for a bit.

Jimmy and Sadie decided to sleep in the tent and Mordecai and I slept in the house so he could be in his crib and I’d be close when he woke up in the night to eat.

I’m happy to report it was a success! I was pleasantly surprised that Sadie slept in the tent all night. Niva slept in the yard by the tent, too. So cute!

June’s family night was awesome! I’m not sure what we’ll do next month. If you have any ideas, send them my way 😊

Do you like to go camping?

  1. Looks like you all had a great time! It must have felt so special for Sadie, getting to sleep outdoors.

I went camping for the first time last year and enjoyed it. We stayed at a campsite with nice shower blocks which had underfloor heating, not sure I’d be up for wild camping like some people do!
