Normal Things

After the craziness that was last week, I was hoping for a really normal week this week. So far, that’s just what it has been! I can’t begin explain how thankful I am for that.

There have been visits to the park and the library, family walks around the block, snacks on the couch before bed, meals cooked, loaves of bread baked, hugs from church family, and piles of laundry folded. The everyday tasks of life have felt especially comforting this week.

I have some good news to share. Jimmy doesn’t have H. pylori! He had a followup appointment after his hospital stay and it sounds like his gastritis is due to stress. We’re praying the medication he’s taking can heal his stomach, and that he can take the stress down a notch or two ten so he doesn’t end up in the same situation! He’ll probably have another endoscopy in late February or early March to check on things, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Other normal things around the Zottola house include: reading and reading and reading. Sadie is slightly obsessed with books, and I love it! I picked up this adorable book below from the library and we have read it about ten billion times.

I’ve also began what I’ve dubbed as “Operation Winter Feet,” which is just me making an effort to put cream on my dry, cracked heels. I’ve been using Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme, and it seems to be doing the trick!

Bread baking has been happening, as always.

I want to bake some cookies, too. Maybe tonight if I get a chance. I’m thinking of making hamantaschen even though I’m not Jewish, nor is it Purim. They just sound really tasty and I have this cookbook (<–affiliate link), so that’s that!

Sadie seems to be healing from her double ear infection and hasn’t had any fevers since Friday! Just lots of ear tugging and crankiness. I’d be cranky if my ears hurt, so I can’t blame her one bit. She’s slowly getting back to her normal, silly self and I’m so thankful!

Tell me about your week!

  1. I’m glad to hear you’re having a much calmer week. Glad to hear that Sadie is almost back to normal. And it’s good news about Jimmy not having H. pylori. I hope he can find ways to destress. My brother had something similar last year and he was worried it would be something really serious, but the doctors couldn’t find anything and said it was stress.

Your bread looks amazing! Is that a sourdough loaf in the photo?

I have the Burt’s Bees foot creme too. Their products are great and they always smell so good!

My week has been routine, with a busy work schedule, catching up with friends and climbing. I’m going climbing on a regular basis now at an indoor rock-climbing wall and it’s such a great workout. Have you ever been climbing?

I hope you all have a relaxing weekend. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Grace! And yes, it’s totally sourdough 🙂 I agree, the Burt’s Bees products smell so wonderful!

I have been rock climbing a few times and always enjoyed it! I’m so happy you’ve found a fun workout that you love and can do with friends!! Sounds like a win-win!

  2. Oh so good! I’m so glad that Jimmy doesn’t have anything more serious! That’s great news! And I’m so glad that this week has been so much calmer than the previous one. Isn’t it wonderful how the every day things like snuggling your baby and reading and baking and folding laundry feel after a time of chaos or sickness? I hope this calm continues. 🙂

  3. Yay, Allie! I am so happy to hear you all had a lovely normal week. Glad that they found the root of Jimmy’s issue & it wasn’t too serious. That bread looks freakin’ perfect & I don’t blame Sadie for being a bit cranky either. I’d be the same if both my ears hurt! Love that last photo of her, hehe. ♡ Silly girl!!

  4. Hurray for normal! It’s been a punishing week here (and it’s still only Thursday). Bad weather meant a couple of nights of storm damage callouts that saw me not get to bed until 3am. And having two trials on this week meant the nights I wasn’t on storm damage I was at the office till 10:30pm. Going for a run tonight and having an appointment-free day tomorrow sounds heavenly right now.
