On Monday I visited Seton Hill for the second time. I went to check out my dorm room. My mom and sister tagged along but I made sure that I drove so I would learn the way to my school.

Watch out for 12 year old girls driving. JK i’m 19.

So this is what my school looks like. Hogwarts, basically.

I’m not sure I want to post pictures of my actual dorm building because hey, creepers are real and alive.

Anyways, my dorm hosts 100 students and each suite inside the dorm hosts 6 people. My suit has 2 single rooms and 2 double rooms. I am in a double. I got a good look at it and everything looked swell to me! The bathroom, shower, and sink are all in seperate rooms so it makes it easier for 6 girls to get ready at the same time! It looks like I will be allowed o have a microwave and mini fridge-WOOT! I also tested the bed and it seems comfy to me.

The only issue I have with my dorm is the fact that I have 12 guys living on my floor. I don’t know how I feel about that…

Did you ever have to live in a dorm with the opposite gender? What do you think of it?

  1. I have personally never lived in the dorms, but I think you will come to appreciate living with guys. I am in classes where it is me (the only female) and the rest of the class is male and I absolutely love it because I do not have to deal with the catiness of other late teen and twenty year old girls! I am an actuarial science student so a majority of my classes have a much higher male enrollment, but I have come to appreciate it. I hope you are able to enjoy your time in the dorms and allow yourself to make friends with these guys! 😀

  2. My gosh, what a beautiful school! I am so envious! USC was a disaster area in comparison. And yes, I lived with guys but it wasn’t really a dorm so we didn’t have to share the bathrooms or anything. But as the semester wore on I simply didn’t care what I looked like anymore! And now I don’t care at all. My husband can attest to that. 🙂

  3. Awwwww Lily is so cuteeeeeee!!! To be honest, I’m more doggie person than kitty, but Lily is totally exceptional. SUPER CUTE! And oh my gosh, that is your school?! I have to get out of California and explore more. So beautiful… and I see earlier stage of foliage in fall in that picture… look nice…again it’s hard to find gorgeous foliage in California too… I miss Japan for fall, but I know I can go to East Coast for that! 😉

  4. I lived in a dorm that was co-ed. Because we had out own bathroom, shower, and what not in our suite.. it honestly made no difference what so ever. No one was out in the hall way in their towels or anything like that…

Ithink you will be just fine. It is a really big change.. but you will adjust for sure!

  5. Lily!!! Aww man is she adorable 🙂 And your school is definitely Hogwarts, are you sure you aren’t a wizard??
About the guys on the floor, I dealt with that at my first college and it was kinda freaky to me at first, but eventually they mellowed out and kinda became like brothers to us gals. I’m sure you’ll adjust just fine bud! 🙂

  6. I lived in co-ed dorms, and I’ll second (third?) what those have said above–turns out, it’s not big deal. They’re in the same situation you are. Everyone’s going to be a little awkward or uncomfortable at first (but that’s also just a function of early college), and then you’ll forget it was ever an issue. Most of the guys I met at college were nice and easy-going dudes. Plus, you have brother experience, so you probably know what to expect 😀 If any of them are asses/jerks, just call them out on it. Also, if it’s absolutely unmanageable (I see no reason why, but just in case), I believe all (or most) colleges DO have a small females-only dorm section, so you can always request to transfer there if you try it and are unhappy. See? It’ll work out one way or the other 😀

  7. Oh my god. My freshman year my neighbors were smelly rugby men. True life: They nearly got kicked out of dorm living for not doing their laundry. It wasn’t bad though and the RA made sure no one was creepy or any of that jazz. The majority of people that lived on my floor were actually men.

I seriously didn’t even know there were 15 types of beans to make soup with. That is so awesome.

  8. In college I lived with guys on my floor. It really wasn’t a big deal. I mean, you probably weren’t going to walk down the hall nekkid anyway, right? 🙂 Seriously, it was a lot of fun to have them around – not awkward.

P.S. Your school totally looks like Hogwarts!

  9. Awww you’re going to Seton Hill?! SUCH a gorgeous school. 🙂

I’ve never lived in a dorm (went to school close to home at first, then took several gap years til I was married haha) but I hope it all works out & is comfortable for you!

  10. I actually lived in an all male residence in universtiy lol they had no where to put the overflow of girls, so tehre was about 20 of us in the house. At first it was a bit odd, but honestly, the house rules were simple, these girls are your little sister and you treat them as such. It was actually really great in the end

  11. My dorm last year was similar- suites with separate bathrooms and such and lots of people living together with a common area. The suites were either all female or male, but the floors were co-ed. I didn’t really notice anything different living around guys. They pretty much stayed in their rooms. They did blast music, though. Methinks it depends more on the people you’re around’s personalities more than gender.

  12. I loved your Harry Potter reference! It does look like Hogwarts! My freshman year at the University of Kansas, I lived in a dorm that was split with both guys and girls. I never had a problem with it, the guys had their side and the girls had their side. I think once you get there, you will see it really isn’t a big deal! I actualyl don’t even remember seeing the guys on my same floor.

  13. That is a BEAUTIFUL campus. Wow, Allie!
I did live in dorms with the opposite sex, but – unlike my sister’s college, men and women could NOT share a dorm room. Yes…you can do that at some universities….:/
My roommate and I shared a shoebox sized room, and I used all of her laundry soap. For my birthday she bought me a box. 🙂 That’s OK…I had to put up with her boyfriend at all hours…
Having a microwave and fridge is NICE. 🙂

  14. Oh my gosh your kitten is ADORABLE. Seriously, I awwwww’d out loud!
    SOOO CUTE!

    Your school looks awesome (architecture wise!). I lived this past year in a coed hall, and it was no big. You seriously become like brothers and sisters by the time the year ends. I mean I wasn’t very close with all the guys (actually only 1 or 2) but I walked by all of them in a towel without a second thought. No big. (;

  15. Lily is so precious!!!

YAY for college! This is such an exciting time! I lived in a male/female dorm at Duquesne and I didn’t mind it at all. The guys usually stayed on their floors and girls on ours, unless you had friends that were hanging out. It really wasn’t that big of a deal. I loved living on campus and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. It’s an experience I feel that every college student should get to have.

  16. My CoED Dorm had the guys on a seperate floor…I had to walk down the hall to the bathrooms and showers so that was cool. Other people had guys and gals on the same floor BUT seperated into wings.

At anyrate…guys ould visit anytime but I honestly had no biggie dealing with a guy seeing me in a thick bathrobe nor in my “jammies” which are just boxers and a shirt.

As long as you don’t have to share a “clean zone” with them it’s fine. Guys are dirty. But they’re cool! Oh, and also hope that your suite mates don’t have guys in their room ALL the time. Gotta establish boundaries when you meet em. Shared space and all.

  17. Wow, Seton does look a lot like Hogwarts, haha! Very pretty, though! Also, Lily is completely adorable!

  18. Seton looks gorgeous and I’m SO happy you like your room!

I’ve lived with guys as neighbors (like right next to me) every year of college since freshman year. I haven’t had any problems or known anyone who has. Usually if there are creepers, they are the non-college student guys. And if hygiene is a concern, two things I hear most from my guys friends is that they don’t want you to see their body as much as you don’t want them to see yours AND they think girls are dirtier than boys. Not sure if that’s true, but I hear it!

  19. I lived in a coed dorm and I LOVED it. Men have the most interesting perspectives. Half the world is male so you will be missing out by isolating yourself from them. After first year I always lived with boys (as friends) and they were soooo much easier than females
