Weekend Pictures and Thoughts

How was your weekend? Ours was a good one over here! Friday was an only child day for Dakota and Saturday was bursting at the seams with fun!

We started off at our neighborhood’s park for an Easter egg hunt. The kids were so excited.

Well, two out of three kids were excited. One fell asleep 😴

We snapped a family photo (minus sleepy girl) and I was cracking up at Sadie and Mordecai wearing their baskets on their heads?!

Jimmy and I even managed to get a picture of just us two. It was a miracle, lol.

I definitely need to pull my shorts out of our basement because it was like 75 degrees outside and jeans were not cutting it, lol. I am still in such a weird place with how my clothes fit postpartum so hopefully my shorts actually fit 😂

The egg hunt ended up having a lot of kids so Sadie and Mordecai each found only two or three eggs but they were both so happy to just have a fun experience and join in on the excitement. I loved seeing Sadie’s joy as she sprinted around the park!

In the afternoon, we painted rocks! Outside! I highly recommend this kit. It comes with rocks, paint markers (instead of pots of paint), gemstones, an idea paper, and googly eyes.

In the evening, we headed to my mother-in-law’s house to have dinner with her, Jimmy’s siblings, and his step siblings. Mordecai and Sadie absolutely adore all of their aunts and uncles and we had such a nice time relaxing, eating great food (oh how I love ham!!), and catching up with family.

Mordecai joined me on the front patio while I fed Dakota. It felt so wonderful to sit outside and feed her.

With each of my babies, I’ve had a most used newborn product. With Sadie, it was probably the rock n’ play (which was later recalled–yikes). With Mordecai, it was baby carriers. With Dakota it has been swaddles and a breastfeeding cover. We are always on the go, so that nursing cover goes *everywhere* with us. I finally caved and bought another one so I can have one in the wash and one clean! I gave it to Dakota in her Easter basket, LOL.

We came home and did the bedtime routine and unloaded a grocery order… Jimmy requested I make ambrosia salad for dessert on Sunday. I feel like ambrosia salad was such a 90s dessert! Does anyone remember it? It has fruit, marshmallows, and whipped topping. I love that it doesn’t require any baking and doesn’t take much time to put together 😬

Here’s a peek at how mine came out. I put Mandarin oranges, mini marshmallows, pineapple, and coconut together with whipped topping.

We woke up on Sunday with joy and prayers! We were so happy to celebrate Christ’s resurrection. Easter is such an important holiday for Christians! It was exciting to celebrate Dakota’s first Easter, too 🥰

We were praying big prayers on Easter morning because my sister was waiting to hear if her son, Gideon, could come home from the NICU that day. He had been in the hospital for one very long week and there were so many things he had to overcome–regulating his body temperature, taking his feeds, passing a carseat test, and keeping his bilirubin levels low–in order to come home aaaaaand HE DID IT!

We gave the kids their Easter baskets and they had a blast playing a bit before church. Mordecai was given paint, play-doh, and a shirt to match Jimmy. Sadie was given Calico Critter dolls, play-doh, and paint.

The boys wore their matching shirts! Mordecai was so proud to match Jimmy. He kept telling everyone that they were matching! And they found perfect pinecones in the church parking lot haha.

Dakota got some kisses and snuggles with my dad during church 💛

And then it was time for the kids to sing up front!

They did great! I always shed a tear seeing them sing. I can’t believe it, but Mordecai will be old enough to sing with the kids by Christmastime. Wild! After church, we headed home for lunch and got the good news that Gideon was officially home from the NICU. We prayed a huge prayer of thanks!

The kids played with kinetic sand outside while I cleaned up the house and prepped our dinner.

For dinner, I made a turkey breast, asparagus, twice baked potatoes, and salad. Ambrosia salad was dessert! I packed up a bit of it for our neighbor who had knee surgery and some for a neighbor who lives alone. It felt so nice to share a special meal.

We also set the table with a fun tablecloth (Sadie was amazed it was meant to be drawn on), napkins, and plates. Sadie made everyone a name tag for their place setting and set out colored pencils for us to draw on the tablecloth.

After dinner, we used the kids’ Easter gifts: paint! We gave them paint smocks, tempera paint, and a pad of paper. I joined in on the fun, too. I really enjoy crafting with the kids.

We then cleaned up and took a walk through pinecone forest and Mordecai chose his perfect pinecone to bring home 🌲

I tried to change Mordecai’s clothes into something more comfy but he refused to take off his matching-with-dad shirt!

When we got home, it was the hour before the “big kids” bedtime… aka one of the tough hours of each night. What do we do with them that won’t rile them up before bed but still keeps them busy? Hot tub time!!

I laid Dakota down for bed and we went out in the hot tub! It’s so great to be back to family time in the hot tub. We just soak and play and talk and it’s the best 🤍

We like to “interview” the kids about their day or just ask random questions. It’s fun getting insight into their minds! We found out Mordecai’s current favorite food is sausage, lol!

And that’s a wrap on our weekend! What a blessed weekend. Between a sleepover for the big kids, family time, celebrating Christ’s resurrection, and Gideon coming home… it was a good one!

We’re back to a normal week this week and we’ve got quite a few things on deck: homeschooling, a dentist appointment for Sadie, Dakota’s two month check up, physical therapy for me, computer coding class for Sadie, and more!

What was your favorite moment from your weekend?

  1. All the kids singing on Easter Sunday at church was such a delight – they’re so cute, and I love seeing their little smiles when they finish a song and the congregation claps. Precious stuff right there!

The egg hunt with the kids was a lot of fun! They didn’t care that they didn’t find a lot of eggs – just the fact they were there and running around with other kids having fun is all that matters!

SO SO SO glad our little Gideon is home!

It’s hard to pick a favorite moment of the weekend – because I was able to spend time with ALL 10 of my grandchildren, and that’s the best weekend I could ask for!!!!!

    Love you,

    Madre

  2. The Easter egg hunt looked like so much fun! Was a great Resurrection weekend with Gideon coming home and being able to spend time with all teh grandkids. Mordecai was very excited about the matching shirts with daddy!

    Love You!

    Dad

  3. I’m glad you all had a lovely weekend 😊 The egg hunt, singing at church, family time and some relaxation time all sounds wonderful. And it must be such a relief that Gideon is home from the hospital.

My weekend was a nice extended one – I had 4 days off as Friday and Monday are public holidays in England. We enjoyed a couple of hikes and a visit to a nature reserve, a trip to the cinema, cooking and baking, and more. Any time spent outside in the sun is always my favourite!

    1. It really was wonderful and Gideon being home made it even better!

Yay for four days off! That is always so nice. It sounds like you had the perfect mix of outdoor time, relaxing, and getting some cooking/baking done!
