Pregnancy Diary: Telling Sadie about Baby #3

Wednesday August 14th, 2024

We finally told Sadie about the baby! We told her on Sunday night, when I was a little over 11 weeks along. I knew she was going to be excited but I didn’t know she was going to be this excited. We got home from church on Sunday evening and I sat down and drew a picture of our family and added an extra little person.

She asked who it was and I pointed at each figure and said “This is Dad, this is Mom, this is Sadie, this is Decky, and this is the baby we’re going to have.”

She immediately smiled so hard and then hugged me. Jimmy was able to get a quick video of the special moment!

She was fairly tame and calm in the video. Afterwards, her excitement was through the roof! Girl was HYPE!!! She had 10,000 questions and was jumping around and drawing and just processing. It was so sweet.

That smile!

My heart needed (and still needs) her innocent excitement! As an adult, I know a lot can go wrong in a pregnancy. I’m not through the first trimester, and even if we make it to the end of the pregnancy, who knows if we will bring home a baby. I know that is such doomsday thinking, but it’s always in the back of my mind. Seeing Sadie just believe that because mom and dad said a baby is coming, then a baby is coming and being so excited? I need to be more like Sader Tot!

It was a special night and Sadie has been nonstop with questions and joy since then. She kisses my belly, she talks to the baby, she wonders when he/she will arrive, and is just pure joy.

She wondered if it’s a boy or a girl (which we know due to genetic testing!) and we told her that we would do a special gender reveal just for her. I’m not one for big parties, so we are just telling people baby’s gender, but thought Sadie deserved a special way to find out. I’ll talk about that in my next post, though.

She said she wasn’t sure if she thought it was a boy or a girl but said she wants another brother because she loves having Mordecai as her brother (heart. melted.). She has literally written down a list of baby names she likes (Luke, Luann, Hart, Marcus, Hastan, Cardon… 😂), and is eager to know what we will call him/her!

Mordecai was present for all of this, but at 21 months old, her has no idea what’s going on! He did pat my belly and said baby, which was so sweet.
