Life lately

So, it’s mid-February. That’s weird! Last time I posted a life lately post, it was early December. Here’s what’s going on in my life lately, with some pictures thrown in for good measure.

Life Lately

-The family I work for is still having their house renovated, so my days are extra busy and random. Love it!
-Just finished reading Like Dandelion Dust by Karen Kingsbury and it was amazing! It was also adapted into a movie, which I ordered from the library. Can’t wait to watch it.
-Still staying strong on my goal for 2016. I had one thing pop up that was super tempting, but I took some time to think about what I want to accomplish this year and said no. I think it was a good choice!
-Jimmy and I have started about 50 different projects around our house. I’m most excited to renovate our office. I’m trying to convince Jimmy that we should paint at least one wall coral 😉
-My mom and I are going on a trip together this summer. We’re still in the early planning stages, but I am incredibly pumped!
-I think I’ve finally chosen a topic for the devotional I’m giving in April at my church. Now I just need to work on the actual content of my message, haha.
-Jimmy and I judged a speech competition on Saturday.

Some Pictures

How cute is this Valentine’s Day tree in my neighborhood?! I saw it while I was walking Lola and had to snap a picture. Jimmy and I didn’t do anything super special for Valentine’s Day since we were busy over the weekend, though we did grab a quick lunch at Bob Evan’s on Saturday. I gifted him some dress clothes for church and he gave me sliding under-cabinet organizers. Married life gifts, haha.

I’m still pet sitting and totally loving it :).

As I mentioned above, Jimmy and I judged a speech competition on Saturday for the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association. We were community judges for the home school sector of the competition. We spent some time in an orientation, then chose the type of speeches we wanted to judge (we both chose the impromptu category, where the contestants were given a topic and then two minutes to prepare a five minute speech–intense!).

The kids ranged from ages 7-17, I believe, and everyone was incredible and just so intelligent. It was really tough to pick winners! Jimmy and I were exhausted from focusing so hard at the event. I have no idea how the kids did it, but it was a really neat experience! We both agreed that it was one of the more random things we’ve done together, haha.

Well, I think that’s all the pictures I have that relate to this post. I haven’t been taking enough pictures lately. That definitely needs to change! Thanks for all the comments on my last post! I’m glad so many people could relate on the impact of social media and how we present ourselves.

What’s going on in your life lately?

  1. Do you have to help with the renovations? I got your snap today about the heat wave (33 degrees) and had to LOL. It was 33 degrees here too and since the weekend was -2 it really did feel warm! There was also three inches of ice on the roads. Talk about slippery 😦 Luckily I still have trail running shoes!

    1. I don’t have to do too much with the renovations, mostly moving things around and cleaning, etc.! 33 degrees totally feels like a heat wave after last weekend’s frigid temps! And today it’s 65 in Pittsburgh! I am in heaven with this weather. How is Ithaca?!

      1. 55 and SUNNY! It was fun working at the running store..then I got called into CTB and that was CRAZY! All good vibes though 🙂

  2. 50 Renos!!! I’m impressed!!! Coral would be super fun for an office too 🙂 I got the green light to paint the master bedroom purple and I am pumped!! Loved the married gifts too, sliding under cabinet organizers are amazzzing!

    1. Haha, it feels like 50 most of the time! We’ve got tools all over the house and we’re constantly deciding which project to work on every night! Fun and crazy all at once :).

Yay for coral. And purple in the master bedroom sounds so relaxing!! Married life gifts are the best, aren’t they?!

  3. That’s so cool that you judged a speech competition! I’m glad that all the kids did well.

Yay for a coral accent wall – I bet that would be really cheerful and increase productivity in an office. 😉

You and your mom will have such a fun time on your trip together this summer. And isn’t the planning such an enjoyable part of taking a trip too?

    1. It was a super interesting and neat experience for sure! I’d do it again next year. I think it will take me a year to recover from it anyways, haha!

And yes, coral feels so cheerful!! I am going to show Jimmy your comment so he knows I have a vote from you 🙂

Planning is half the fun of a trip! Even just thinking about planning a trip makes me all kinds of giddy!

I love the selfie of you pet sitting 🙂 And that Valentine’s Day tree is so festive! I worked out with my friends on Valentine’s Day morning and we’re all totally single so it was perfect. Ha!

    1. THANK YOU!! I made sure he read your comment!! I need all the votes for a coral wall that I can get!

I’m glad you had a fun Valentine’s Day with your friends!! I think it’s good to celebrate no matter what your situation is!

  5. Wow! Judging that speech competition sounds really cool, but also really intense! What a neat experience!

I vote yes to the coral wall! And I want to see pics of all the changes! I love house posts! 🙂

    1. It was super interesting, and yes, very intense!! I was mentally drained after that. I think I just got so emotionally attached to each contestant, you know?! Definitely a very cool experience!

Yay for the coral vote!! I am going to tell Jimmy you voted coral! I need all the votes I can get ;). I will definitely post pictures after! House posts are so much fun and I always love seeing what you and Christopher do with your lovely home!

  6. The volunteering experience sounds awesome! I’ve judged robotics competitions before and while judging is hard work, it’s amazing to see what participants come up with!

    1. It was such a neat experience! I imagine judging robotics would be so cool and tough at the same time!! It really is amazing to see the creative side of these types of competitions 🙂

  7. Adding my support for the coral wall! 🙂

Bright accent walls can look amazing, especially when they’re paired with another colour that complements them. My sister and her husband painted one of their kitchen walls a coral-type colour, and it looks gorgeous.

I hear you re: time going by. It’s crazy that it’s March in three days’ time! Christmas feels like yesterday.
