My mom and I ended up road tripping from Pittsburgh to Charlotte to Savannah instead of flying from Pittsburgh to Savannah and I’m so glad we did. We had a great time driving and talking, and we both loved our brief stay in Charlotte.
We arrived in Charlotte on a Saturday afternoon and stayed at the Crowne Plaza. We worshipped at Charlotte Church of Christ on Sunday morning, and then drove to Savannah. We arrived in Savannah the day after the Savannah College of Art and Design held their graduation and the city was wild. There were so many intoxicated people. It was just crazy. Thankfully the city seemed to calm down as the week went on.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Historic District and I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t recommend it. On our first night, my mom and I got stuck on the elevator with eight other people for 20 minutes. We all started running out of air and had to be rescued. It was by far one of the scariest experiences of my life. Needless to say, I will never ride in an elevator again. Ever.
On our first full day, it rained from 8:00 AM until the next morning due to Tropical Storm Colin. There was some minor flooding, but nothing compared to how bad Florida was hit. We decided to visit the Oglethorpe Mall to get out of the rain and had a blast. It was a very clean mall and we both enjoyed it.
We got cold at the mall so we bought matching hoodies, haha.
By Tuesday morning, the rain had cleared up and we were so excited to get out and really explore Savannah. It was a hot day, in the high 80s, but we didn’t let that stop us. We went to Forsyth Park, The Sentient Bean coffee shop, City Market, River Street, and Leopold’s Ice Cream. We also visited almost every square and took a trolley tour of the city.

We spent the last day of our trip on Tybee Island, which I will blog about next. I’ll also be discussing the restaurants we went to, and sharing more pictures.
My mom said her favorite part of Savannah was taking the trolley tour and learning about the history behind everything. I would have agreed, but since I have hearing loss, I couldn’t understand the tour guide over the roar of the engine, haha.
My favorite part of Savannah was Forsyth Park. I absolutely loved how peaceful and beautiful it was! We both agreed that we enjoyed how walkable, clean, and dog-friendly Savannah is. I would go back in a heartbeat and I want to take Jimmy!
Living My Full Life 
I completely forgot you suffer from hearing loss. What a bummer! I bet the sights made up for it though. I’ve never been to Savannah but it looks beautiful. How were the bugs? People say there are really bad bugs in the south.
It’s a total bummer, but the sights definitely made up for my lack of hearing, haha. I know I should be wearing hearing aids, but they’re just so hard to get used to!
The bugs weren’t too, too bad in Savannah. I got bit by a mosquito once and it was rough, but other than that it was awesome!
I’ve heard Savannah is a nice place and a lot like Charleston, but I’ve never been there. I plan to go in December to run a race over that bridge (my friend has convinced me to do it!). I’ll keep in mind NOT to stay at that particular hotel, though! It looks like you and your mom had a wonderful trip otherwise and I’m glad it was a safe drive.
I hope you love Savannah when you visit in December!! And yes, definitely don’t stay at that hotel, haha. I would recommend finding a hotel with parking. It can be tough to find, but worth it since parking otherwise is kind of sparse. Once you park, you can pretty much walk (or run!) everywhere in Savannah!

I want to visit Savannah someday – it looks beautiful. Have you read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? It’s set in Savannah and I liked it when I read it!
That elevator experience sounds really terrifying. I bet those were the longest 20 minutes ever. I’m really glad everyone was okay in the end.

I haven’t read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, but the book was in every shop in Savannah! It seemed to be big there! I’ll have to check into it.
And yes, those were absolutely the longest 20 minutes of my life, haha. That and any time I’m at the dentist are the longest times of my life, LOL.
