Masters swimming

The Pirates game on Sunday was awesome (they won!) and hot. I put sunblock on only to sweat it off about 2 minutes later! Pictures from the game:

$6 for a bag of cotton candy *sigh*

We look tan?!

Leopard bra + baggy tank top = bad idea haha

Since it was SO hot outside Hannah, Molly, and I went in the shade and stumbled upon a prize wheel. You had to be 18 or over to spin it so we got in line because I’m over 18! (by more than a year) and when we got to the front of the line the woman who was going to let me spin totally didn’t believe I was 18. She was like “Are any of you 18?” I was like “Yeaaaaaah i’m 19” UGH! Needless today, I spun the wheel and won a Pirates coffee sleeve that my brother put on his coffee this morning before work.

Today I did something different and new!!

I swam with a masters team this morning from 6:00-7:00AM

Only 3 other people swam and I loved having my own lane! I didn’t realize how much I missed swimming with a team and having an actual practice. When I swim on my own at my gym I don’t push myself… at all. It was strange to be “pushed”!

I really enjoyed swimming with older people because it was totally different from a club/high school/college team where stress is involved in each practice: getting there every day, being on time, swimming hard every practice, getting good times in meets.

I like to swim, and I love to swim on my own terms.

Do you like to exercise with a team or on your own terms?

  1. Looks like a fun game! I would have been all about that cotton candy too. 🙂

I like both forms of exercise. Being pushed by a team is awesome, but as busy as life gets going it alone makes much more sense and is less stressful.

  2. i totally am similar!! if I dont have a coach or a trainer or a classs… I’m not nearly as pushed…and don’t work as hard!!

love that shirt and leopard bra!! 😉

YAY FOR SUMMER GAME DAYS! 😀 my fav!

  3. I’m not competitive by nature, so if I’m playing with a team it’s usually a veeery relaxed game of kickball or tennis 🙂 I think playing sports with other people can make it a lot more fun!

Swimming is seriously TOUGH– good for you, girl!

  4. I never was a big competitive or team player – I love running, swimming etc., but I prefer to do that on my own. I love when I have my own line in the pool, I don´t like when someone is breathing behind my neck 🙂

  5. It all depends on my mood. Sometimes I prefer working out alone while other times I love (and need) someone to work out with me! Actually I think I would be fine with working out with someone all the time as long as I get in one workout that day by myself.

  6. Ugh… I get asked if I am over 18 ALL THE TIME (I am 19)! In fact most people think I am like 15 :/! I guess it might be good when I am 30?… I have to say I like to exercise in a group or team as well (although I usually exercise by myself). I also find I also don’t push myself as much as I do when other people are “watching.” 😉

  7. I do like exercising with a friend, but I’ve never been a team player. Well…except cheerleading and track. I’m not competitive.

PS- you girls are so stripey and color coordinated with eachother!

  8. mmm cotton candy! That is some good stuff!

I actually haven’t worked out with a team for a long time..since my dance team days! However, I love working out with my sister–chatting while ellipticaling makes it go by so much faster.

  9. THe game looks like lots of fun! I hate how expensive EVERYTHING is at a game though!

To be honest with you – I haven’t practiced with a team in SO long. I do kind of miss the feeling, though!

  10. Yay for the coffee sleeve and the Pirates winning!!! Looks like such a fun time 😀
I think I like exercising on my own terms best (weight training, swimming, horseback riding) because sadly all of my past experiences with teams have been kinda lame haha

  11. I hear the Pirates have been doing really well! Glad they won for you while you were at the game 🙂

Ahhh! I’ve been looking for a masters swim team to join! I dunno if I’m any good.. I mean I swim 50 yds in 42-45 seconds when I’m pushing myself.. haha is that good enough? I’d hate to join and then be awful at it.

  12. I’ve never swum (swam?) with a master’s team! I bet it would be an awesome atmosphere though.

Okay so…I am babyfaced apparently. (Or maybe it’s because I’m short. Either way.) I got kids menus until I was 16 years old (seriously. SIXTEEN), and I am in my 20s and married (for TWO YEARS) and people still don’t believe I’m over 18. 😡 So I feel your pain. haha

  13. I actually like working out on my own, but that’s largely because I’ve always only been by myself, haha. I do like team sports, though!!

  14. I totally understand what you mean about the difference between “team sports” and sports for fun. I played every sport in middle school and then started to back away in high school when things got super intense and competitive. I loved intermurals my freshman year of college though – it brought the fun, low-key play back that I enjoyed! I’m not competitive with others, so I think that was a big part of it.

  15. Glad you had a great swim workout! I don’t swim but I do run with a team and on my own. I noticed that I am more likely to take walking breaks on my own than I am with my team. Haha. Ooops! 😉

  16. Master swimming is hardcore. I haven’t done it though. Haha. It’s at my gym at 5:30 AM and I just know everyone is literally a master at swimming.
