The knee update

I wonder if everyone is sick of hearing about my knee. I’m sick of hearing about my knee and I can’t wait until it gets better!!

On Wednesday I went to my first appointment with a UPMC athletic trainer to figure out what was up with my knee and what I could do for it. I headed towards the South Side of Pittsburgh for the appointment.

I was feeling a little nervous because I didn’t know what would go down!

The trainer was really nice andย knowledgeableย about sports related injuries and how body mechanics work. He asked me some questions and watched me walk and (painfully) run.

First, he gave me inserts for my shoes, which helped a lot. He showed me a magnitude of stretches. Some of the stretches were for body parts (the middle of my butt cheek) that I didn’t even know I could stretch. I did a few balance/strengthening exercises as well.

Basically, the trainer said that I over pronate when I run, I have a weak butt, and weak hips. All of those factors cause pain for lil knee! Thankfully, there are stretches and strength exercises I can do to alleviate the pain. (WOOOOT!)

I have to keep going back to stretch and learn more strength exercises and he wants me to do some specific stretches on my own for a few days and then try running… *gulp*

She made me angels (which I photographed upside down)!! I also got body wash [which I really, really needed hahah TMI], a pen with a picture frame, and an awesome swim cap!!


Tonight, Hannah {little sister}, is having a pool party at our house and i’m making her a decorated cookie cake and chocolate covered pretzels. I’m also life guarding the party.

  2. Haha, I love your nervous face! And it sounds like the trainer appt was super helpful (I didn’t know you could stretch the middle of your butt either…huh–the things you learn on the internet!). Hope the stretching/exercises make your knee all better! Leg injuries are NO fun.

    That duct tape IS amazing.

  3. yay I’m so glad you now know exactly what is wrong and how to get that knee stronger!! I have a weak butt too and am supposed to be doing tons of squats a lunges fun fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Looks like the angels kinda got smushed but I guess they aren’t too bad to fluff back up! Haha, I actually put that box together in May but kept forgetting to send it!
    I’m glad you can get going on healing your knee now – the trainer sounds pretty awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ I am so bad about stretching ANYTHING, let alone the middle of my buttcheek. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Happy Birthday Hannah!!! I hope she has a great one! Does she run like you? You should do a post about her saying why she’s so amazing for her bday! Hope your knee gets better soon. It’s so hard to not run (mentally). I know though with your optimistic attitude you will bounce right back. ๐Ÿ™‚

    I’m glad that you saw someone for your knee and that it isn’t anything serious! To reassure you, I also used to get knee pain running for the EXACT same reasons, after getting proper shoes and squatting/deadlifting for about a month I had no more pain! Give it time and get in the weight room ๐Ÿ˜‰ But realllllly!!!

  12. That is so interesting. EVERY doctor I’ve been to for my knee pain has told me the same thing – I over-pronate and have a weak butt and hips. I really have to start doing my PT more frequently.

  13. I felt relieved to hear that your knee pain will be reduced after you do more stretching. Although this “stretching” can be really tedious and so much work (at least to me), it’s great that your pain will be less. Happy stretching!
