5 Encouraging Bible Verses for Anxiety

Anxiety is something we all deal with at one point or another. It has a way of wiggling itself into our minds, leaving us distracted by fears about the future. In anxiety-riddled moments, it can be hard to find peace and clarity. The most reassuring tool for me to combat anxiety is God’s Word. It offers comfort when those anxious thoughts threaten to take over my mind and heart.

5 encouraging Bible verses for anxiety

These are my personal favorite Bible verses to combat anxiety–they’re the ones that are lock screens on my phone, scattered around my house on notecards, and highlighted in my Bible. If you need a dose of comfort today, I pray these 5 encouraging Bible verses for anxiety can calm your heart, strengthen your faith, and point you to the One who is always with us and loves us beyond measure.

Here’s a list of the 5 encouraging Bible verses:

  • 2 Timothy 1:7
  • Isaiah 26:3
  • Isaiah 41:10
  • 1 Peter 5:7
  • Philippians 4:6-7

1. 2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

This is one of my favorite verses to combat anxiety because it reminds me that fear isn’t from God and that He has given us a sound mind to discern what is true and what isn’t. It helps me remember that I can choose not to let anxious thoughts control me and lean on the One who is stronger than fear.

2. Isaiah 26:3

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

My mind tends to run wild with “what if” thoughts but this verse reminds me that I can secure God’s peace when I fix my thoughts on Him instead of anxious thoughts. Problems and troubles will come in this life, but we can have the calming relief that God is in control. He is with us in every circumstance.

3. Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Not only does God tell us not to fear (because He is with us!), but he promises to strengthen and help us. He holds us steady when we feel weak with worry.

4. 1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

This scripture’s use of the word “cast” always makes me think of casting a fishing line. When you go fishing, you cast your line out and leave it in the water and we’re to do the same with or worries–we’re to cast them on the Lord and know that He cares.

5. Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A lot of anxiety stems from wanting to control a situation that is out of our hands. Philippians 4:6-7 helps me to remember to bring my troubles to God (instead of micromanaging a situation!) with thanksgiving. When I bring Him my trouble, He gives me His peace. While the situation may not change, Christ guards my heart and mind with a peace that rises above understanding.

Anxiety can feel insurmountable at times, but God’s Word is a steady lifeline for anxious moments. These verses encourage me to turn my focus on Him and trust that He will carry me through whatever I’m facing. My prayers is that when you’re facing worry, you’ll bring these scriptures to mind and find comfort in God’s love for you 🤍
