Baking is something I just love to do! Each time I’ve had a baby, it falls a bit to the wayside and I always wonder… will I want to pick it back up again? The answer has always been yes. This time, it was Sadie who got me back in the kitchen!
I was wanting to do some hands-on science lessons with her and gave her a few options: astronomy with our telescope, geology with rocks and gemstones, or baking. Sadie made mama proud and chose baking!
She decided she wanted to make a Peeps cake for spring, so that’s what we did. We woke up one morning and both Mordecai and Dakota were sleeping so we started baking her cake at 7:00 am 😂
I tried to be as hands-off as possible and let her do most of the work by herself–cracking eggs, measuring, mixing, and decorating. We made the cake chocolate with chocolate frosting… and of course lots of Peeps and spring-themed sprinkles!
I have to say, Sadie honestly surprised me. When I stepped back and let her take the reins, she was more than capable of baking and decorating a cake. In fact, I think she did a really good job!
Eventually Mordecai and Dakota woke up, but they just joined in on the fun! Dakota got to oversee the process from her baby carrier 😉
Sadie was thrilled with how the cake turned out and said she especially loved decorating it. She decided she wanted to bring it to Jimmy’s work and was *so excited* for him to see it!
As soon as we finished up, we brought her cake to Jimmy’s work and all dug in! It was a fun science lesson for the day and a great way for me to ease back into some baking postpartum 😊
As always, Sadie requested we film a vlog of the process, so here it is!
