More Outer Banks fun! My dad and Sadie started the day right by hitting up Duck Donuts and grabbing a dozen donuts for everyone. Sadie was very excited that she was able to see how the donuts were made.
On Wednesday, we drove about 25 minutes to the town of Manteo. The downtown area is like a quaint village set on the water with a beautiful marina, local shops, and a few restaurants. It’s just so cute!
One of the things I love the most about Manteo is the history of the area. Have you ever heard of The Lost Colony? It’s worth a read if you’re into historical mysteries!
We stopped into Charis Coffee Company and grabbed coffee and some coffee beans to take home. Charis is a Christian coffee shop and has a beautiful prayer wall. How cool is that?
After checking out the downtown area, popping into an antique shop and walking on the marina, we ate lunch at Poor Richard’s Sandwich Shop.
We then crossed Shallowbag Bay by walking on a bridge over to Roanoke Island Festival Park! The park includes a recreated 16th-century sailing ship, living history demonstrators, a museum, and a variety of performing and visual arts. It was amazing to immerse ourselves in the history of the area for a few hours.
We all headed back to the beach house and hung out by the pool before dinnertime. Sadie and I also painted rocks! We just can’t go long without crafting!!
In the evening, we drove about 20 minutes to the town of Duck! We walked on the boardwalk there, grabbed ice cream, and met my friend again.
Seeing a beautiful sunset was the perfect end to the day. My next post will be all about our last day in the Outer Banks. Spoiler alert: we climbed a lighthouse!

Manteo and Duck were so much fun!
Love 💕You!
Dad
🙂
Agreed! Thanks for hanging with us! Love you so much!
another fun packed day for sure! Manteo is such a fun, quaint town, and I always enjoy it there. Going to the boardwalk in Duck that evening for ice cream was also a great time, and seeing your Pgh friend again was so cool! That sunset was gorgeous 🩷
love you, madre
That sunset is indeed beautiful!
Agreed! 😊
Love it! I found a ship not far from where I was working in London, and from about the same era as the Roanoke colony: a reconstruction of the Golden Hind: https://roadtowollongonghm.wordpress.com/2024/05/29/part-clxxxvi-scenic-mileage/.
And if you like the pirate thing, can I suggest a holiday to Chalmette Battlefield one day??
Oh how cool!! I love all those things… shipwrecks, pirates, etc.! It’s all so interesting!
