A Raccoon in Our Tree, Double Therapy, and Everything Else

Remember in my recent post where I said there wasn’t much else for us to catch in the way of sickness? I spoke too soon. I caught a head cold. I must have jinxed myself haha. I have a new best friend called Cold Calm.

Cold Calm Homeopathic medicine

Unfortunately I can’t take medications like Mucinex or DayQuil because I’m still breastfeeding Mordecai, so homeopathic medicine it is!

So, this morning started off really interesting. I was up at 5:30am and Jimmy informed me that Niva was outside freaking out and climbing our tree. He thought she chased a cat into our tree, so I went outside to inspect the situation. What I found was the video below. Niva chased a raccoon into our tree!!

There’s just never a dull moment around here! We got Niva inside and let the raccoon scramble down the tree and out of the yard unscathed.

Speaking of Niva, she and I went on two therapy visits yesterday. The first one was at a daycare and the second was at our favorite school for Deaf children. This week was the second time we went to the daycare and it was just as fun and hilarious as the first time. Imagine 20 four-year-olds petting Niva at the same time and telling me random things.

Therapy dog and handler

We have one more visit this week at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh for Youth Mental Health Awareness Day. I plan on doing a whole post about the past few months of therapy work soon. I feel like I’m due to share all my thoughts lately.

Onto everything else from life lately! How about a cute picture of Sadie and Mordecai?

Brother and sister

Mordecai is going to be 18 months next week. How is he almost a year and a half old already?! I feel like he’s still a baby, but he’s not. I just baby him 🥹

Baby next to a huge steel beam

Here he is next to a huge steel beam at Jimmy’s work! We just loving visiting Jimmy and seeing everyone in the shop.

The weather has been amazing in Pittsburgh lately. Perfect for going to the park. I brought along Life in His Presence and Sunrise Manifesto. Jimmy bought me the Sunrise Manifesto (it’s a guided journal) back in 2021 and I recently finished it and immediately bought another because I loved it so much. It’s like a journal but more simple, organizational, and gratitude-focused, if that makes sense!

Life in His Presence

I don’t get a lot of quiet time alone to journal and read devotionals, so I try to squeeze it in whenever and wherever I can 🙂

Want to hear the creepiest/funniest thing Sadie has said to me recently? We were hanging out in the kitchen one morning and out of the blue she said “Imagine a video where they cut all your hair off and glue it to your dog and cut all your dog’s hair off and glue it on you.” I. was. speechless.

Moving on to baking! I’ve been keeping busy with Etsy and local orders.

    🙂

  2. I read the raccoon part and clicked so fast! Also, I love Sadie’s imagination. That hair idea was something else, lol. In terms of crazy pet stories: our cat is more of an outdoor cat. He thinks he contributes to the household by bringing “gifts”– rats, squirrels, you get the picture. Well, recently, he decided that he needs to teach the dog how to be useful. He dropped a RAT in the dog’s outdoor bed. He was trying to teach the dog how to stop being a free loader 😂 The cat was like “you better WORK”.

    1. Hahaha, only Niva!

Sadie’s imagination is fun and also sometimes freaky haha. Like how did she think of that!!

Your cat is so cool hahah. I seriously laughed out loud at that story!

  3. NIVA is truly a legend! She goes from therapy dog to a raccoon chaser!

I love all the pics of the kids – especially of Sadie and Deck on Mother’s day!!
I don’t really have any cold remedies. I feel as if I don’t get as many colds as I did when I was younger (thank the Lord!).

    Love you!
