The Weird Week + Peanut Butter Honey Challah

We’re in the weirdest time of the year: the week between Christmas and the New Year. What day is it? Who am I? What is going on?

This week is a mixture of “normal” life and relaxation. Jimmy was back to work on the 26th, but we made sure to spend time in the hot tub that evening!

I’ve been working on getting the house back in order after all the festivities and also spending time playing with the kids.

Jimmy and I gave Sadie a Polly Pocket set for Christmas and us girls have been having so much fun changing the dolls outfits and pretending they own a bakery. Did I pick the gift partially for myself? Maybe 😉

Along with all the playing, I’ve been squeezing in some work for my family’s real estate brokerage. I also made challah this week! Peanut butter honey challah. Here’s how the process went:

I made my classic challah dough and added cinnamon. Once it had risen, I stuffed each piece of the braid with peanut butter and honey.

I rolled up the strands and braided them as usual. I made one six-strand loaf and one three-strand loaf.

Brushed ’em with an egg wash, baked them, and then drizzled them with honey.

It came out nice! I might try a different type of peanut butter next time and will probably add more honey.

Sadie was so excited for the bread. She liked trying a piece of the dough but wasn’t into the finished product. Mordecai gladly ate her piece and a piece of his own 🙃

That’s where we’re at part way through the weirdest week of the year! Playing, working, and finding joy in every moment.

What are you up to this week?

  1. Yes!, I have always felt the week between Christmas has been a strange one too~ the anticipation and joyousness of Christmas is over, but the happiness of a fresh new year is upon us (all in 1 week).
This week I’m visiting grandkids and FINALLY renewing my conceal carry license that expired last January. I’m also hoping to reorganize our downstairs family room/office- which has been on my wishlist for a while now.
    The challah looked amazing!!
    Love you,
    Madre

  2. Hmmm, the Polly Pockets, I do think they were for more than one person for Christmas! I love all the pics! I’m with Jimmy, very busy end of the year work schedule for me unfortunately. Actually fortunately as the work has resulted in nice commissions for the company and our agents.
    Love ❤️ You !
