Lasagna doesn’t have to be complicated to be delicious. This simple recipe uses everyday ingredients—ground beef or turkey, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and your favorite pasta sauce—for a hearty, crowd-pleasing dinner. No fancy steps or hard-to-find items here, just a straightforward process that makes lasagna doable any night of the week.
Ingredients
1 16-ounce box lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning, divided
1 large egg
1 15-ounce tub whole milk ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 24-ounce jars pasta sauce (any kind works!)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Boil half the box of noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
2. In a skillet, brown the beef or turkey, draining if needed. Once it’s fully cooked, add the salt, pepper, and one teaspoon of the Italian seasoning. Set aside the meat.
3. In a large bowl, combine the egg, ricotta, 1 1/2 cups of the mozzarella, parmesan, and one teaspoon of the Italian seasoning.
4. Add enough pasta sauce to line the bottom of an 8×8 baking pan. Layer lasagna noodles on top of sauce, cutting them to size if necessary.
5. Add a layer of cheese, a layer of meat, a layer of sauce, and top with noodles. At this point, you may or may not have enough cheese and meat to make another layer. I usually don’t!
6. When you are done layering, be sure noodles are the last thing on top. Add sauce on top of the noodles and finish off with a sprinkle of the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
7. Cover your pan with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
8. Uncover the lasagna and broil it for five minutes, or until cheese is browned.
9. Cool and enjoy!
