We’re settled in back at home from our trip to North Carolina. It was hard leaving the beach and my parents after having over a week of time together to relax. At the same time, we missed our pets and Jimmy and I both had work obligations to get back to (lots of baking orders for me and a training for a new machine for Jimmy).
We left the Outer Banks at 9:00 pm on Thursday night and arrived in the ‘Burgh at 5:00 am on Friday. Jimmy was a trooper again and drove the whole way. The kids slept the entire drive and I was on and off sleeping, so I wasn’t toooo tired once we were home.
We came home in the middle of a massive heat wave for Pittsburgh. It was odd being at the beach where it was 80 degrees and sunny, with a cool ocean breeze to coming straight into a wall of humidity and 95 degree temperatures in Pittsburgh.
Our neighborhood had a family fun night on Friday, so we dressed as cool as possible and had a couple of hours of outdoor play with all the families in our neighborhood. It was the perfect way to kick off being back at home!
Saturday kicked off a few days of baking for me, starting with chocolate covered oreos. As soon as I finished those, I prepped sugar cookie dough for cutouts for the same order.
Jimmy also worked on Saturday and I picked up Niva from boarding. She literally hugged me when we were reunited. It was so cute! The $500+ bill for like 10 days of boarding was not as cute 😆 but I know she was in good hands, so it was worth it.
It was still in the 90s on Saturday, so in the evening we set up a slip ‘n slide for the kids. They both played on it for quite a while, which allowed me to fold laundry and do some real estate work. It was a busy day!

the house was WAYYY TOO QUIET when you guys left – we had all of our grandchildren and families here in a months span of time-and it was so amazing.
I know heading back home is always hard, but getting back to your daily routine with work and kids is always a good thing too – plus knowing you can visit OBX at anytime if the year makes leaving a little less daunting. I’m glad the kids and you and jimmy enjoyed the family festival- what a great thing to go home to.
I can honestly see Niva running to you and trying to hug you- she’s hilarious!!
glad you’re all home safe and sound.
love you.

I’m coming home from a trip this minute (literally sitting in Kuala Lumpur airport as I type this). I’m steadily realising that how you feel about travelling or coming home reflects how you feel about yourself. If you’re basically unhappy, a trip will give you a little respite, but only until the novelty of new surroundings wears off. But if you feel OK about life generally and have a kind of sunny disposition, then you’ll be OK even about returning to your old routine.
So, so true. I heard the saying “Where you go, there you are” meaning that no matter where you go, you can’t escape yourself. You can travel and change surroundings, but like you said, if you aren’t happy deep down… you won’t be suddenly happy from traveling!
